Re: Perplexed still re final volume level

Through trial and error, I figured out that the fader on the Master channel behaves in such a way that if I crank it all the way up and control the level with a plug-in on the Master bus, the files that are created from mixing down are consistent with what is indicated by the metering on the plug-in...

Re: Perplexed still re final volume level

Oh, dang, Mark, you went way over the "short sentence" line! Thanks for the shout, HOFA 4U Meter, Fader & MS-Pan is a great free tool. I use it as my master fader. By this I mean I turn Mixcraft's Master fader all the way up and use the HOFA one in its place to control the final output...

Re: Mixing With Headphones...

As Jon implies, headphones are one of many playback references I use to make sure my mixes/masters sound good. In my studio/mixing room I have two sets of Alesis monitors, a set of Boston Acoustics A70's, and three sets of headphones I can listen to mixes on to see how they sound in different contex...

Re: Guide Track?

Not sure if it contributes, but I'll chime in and say that I often work up my songs by laying down rudimentary tracks that I replace with more finished tracks. I've started with programmed drums that I've played over with more complete beats, looped guitar and keyboard parts that I've played over wi...

Re: Best - EASIEST - drum machine?

Are you looking for realistic sounds, like samples, or retro "drum machine" sounds, or what?

Which ones have you tried and found wanting so far?

Re: Strings VST - reasonably priced

Another user of Sonivox Orchestral Companion Strings here. It's great for the price . I don't remember exactly what I paid at Pluginboutique, whether it was $1 or $10, but it was about right. It advertises a manual and has none, advertises that the mod wheel will perform swells and it does not. Deve...

Re: Izotope sale

I only have experience with Ozone Elements 8, which I purchased for $29 and consider a worthy purchase. Ozone is an integrated suite of mastering tools, and Elements gives you 3 of them. So you get the EQ, the Maximizer and the Imager. The Imager is available separately as a free download, so you ar...

Re: getting rid of clicks where clips meet

There's no way I know of to do this automatically. When I do vocal track editing/comping, I get rid of the zero-crossing clicks and pops by either doing what you are doing or creating a very small fade using clip volume automation within the clip(s). This is a little more tedious, but sometimes nece...

Re: Mixing orchestral music

I am following this thread with fascination, as a total noob at using orchestral VSTi's who would like to make his pop songs more "baroque." Couple of things I can add: Rob, Mixcraft can now mix down to FLAC, which is lossless and comes out to half the size of WAV's. It's what I use for se...

Re: Mixing orchestral music

It's hard to say without hearing a sample of what your mixes sound like now. If you have something on Soundcloud or Google Drive or whatever, one of the orchestral types on here may have some tips for how to improve your sound. I would likely not, as I am a novice at that myself. I have Sonivox Orch...

Re: Waves SSLComp Stereo (VST3) Plugin compatibility?

Yeah, I've given up on VST3's for now. They can supposedly do neat things like turn themselves off when they are not processing audio, for less consumption of resources, and multiple instances of the same plug-in can share resources, and VSTi's can have improved I/O, but the developers of the plug-i...

Re: Sonivox Orchestral Companion Strings issue

I am running Windows 7 on my main DAW system and have the text size set at 100%, so I haven't encountered this one. Sonivox VSTi's have a reputation for being kind of buggy. It looks as if they hired a development team, coded up a bunch of plug-ins, then got rid of the development team and keep sell...

Re: Sonivox Orchestral Companion Strings issue

I can confirm that this is a recent issue.

I found out I still had Build 369 installed on my system and it works fine in that. I also had a copy of the 407 installer and installed that and it's broken in 407, so at some point between build 369 and build 407 it got messed up.

I have filed a bug.

Re: Hardware/Sound Quality/Clarity

On a slightly related note, the included drum sets are getting a bit stale, what is everyone using for drums these days? Ach, we should make a new topic, but I suggest the best deal in the business, Sennheiser's DrumMic'a, which runs in the Kontakt Player. After that, MT Power Drum Kit, or Meldapro...

To me, it's worth if for Pianissimo and the Psychedelic Delay alone. Welcome!
