Smallcreep's Day by Mike Rutherford.

We used "At the End of the Day" as one of our signoff songs before turning off the transmitter to the radio station at night, which gives you a hint of how long I've been enjoying this great album.

Awesome. Chet and Les, two greats. Different styles that blend somehow to make a greater thing.
Chet always amazed me with his ability to play diverse multiple lines simultaneously.
And Les, simply spoke a musical language through his instrument. And such a gentleman.

Here's some irony:
I started my day with a focused listen to a 1949 recording of Django Reinhardt.

It sounded like a worn scratched record played on a wind-up Victrola with a worn needle. Yet it was beautiful.
I briefly flirted with thoughts of how great it would be to hear a modern clean recording, but quickly shunned the idea, as I realized some damn fool would "re-master" it and compress/limit it and ruin the original beauty.

At lunch I needed a mental break and put in my earbuds and turned on a favorite eclectic internet stream.
Two songs that popped up:
ZZ Top- Just got paid. Cranked it. Always just something to take me away.
Then Prince- Purple Rain played. I don't know what it is, I don't get the lyric, and its not my genre, but damn, that one always moves me. Its a great composition that displays great emotion. Plus it evokes a memory of the first time I heard it- live concert, long story, but it was a loooong extended version with one of the most soulful guitar solo's I have ever heard. It moved me.

Then on the way home this evening I put my brand new Willie Nelson- "God's Problem Child" disc in and made it about 2/3 through.
It will be in heavy rotation for me. 84 years old and he has written and sung a set of masterpieces. Its a work of art. Upbeat, heart wrenching, a blues number, its got range. Truly earned the title "icon" IMO.
Highly recommended.

And even if its not your thing, this makes me snicker, he's funny!
....well I was gonna post a link to a video from his song "Woke up still not dead again today" making fun of internet rumors of his demise, but the video appears to have been pulled. Marketers.
Stay in tune, Mark

Reading what you said about Chet & Les reminded me to look to see what an old friend had on YouTube, when Chet was in England he actually went to see & meet Richard Harding after hearing talk about him.

Please take a look at this, one of several on YouTube - enjoy some superb guitar playing from a 1977 TV show

and one from 2016 in his own studio.

We also had another guitar legend in Yorkshire in Allan Holdsworth who sadly died a few weeks ago. Before he went to live in the US I spentmany hours jamming & recording with him at my house back in the mid 1960's.
In America he changed to a style, not my personal preference of Jazz Fusion, but one cannot take away that he was one of the world's leading exponents in his art. I won't give a link because you will find many on YouTube particularly tributes from leading musicians since his death.

almost forgot my favourite Willie Nelson track from the "God's Problem Child" album - "Still Not Dead". Just about sums it up for us oldies.

There's something going on with this Beatle'esque tune.
