Just wonderful.

I didn't realize that you could rock the handle back and forth like that, but it makes sense.

That's a pretty impressive example of both instrument and performance. And I'd love to know the details of the recording.

I've never seen one quite that sophisticated either. All the little adjustable details on the drone strings and sympathetic strings, etc. Very cool.

I want one. 8)

Heh, my first thought on seeing that video was, "oh, look, Mark got his room in heaven, and all he has to do do for all eternity is call out, 'next' every once in a while, and an attendant brings him a new instrument!"

Mark the Hurdy Gurdy is a beautiful instrument when played well, we have one in our group of muso's, has three different models and plays all over Europe at various festivals and I have to say is very good - but they do become a bit annoying when sitting in a room for three hours at close quarters.
We, all nine of us, try to keep in a folk style, very acoustic & the Hurdy easily drowns all, except the Bagpipe player, at least he plays a Medieval set with only one drone !

So yes I agree Hurdy Gurdy's do sound well but only in small doses - and at a reasonable distance in my opinion & the opinion of most of my fellow musicians.
