Clueless user fails importing tracks

Postby MikeDVI » Sun Feb 17, 2019 6:12 pm

Hi all, I darn well know this has been covered about a million times, but I still managed to lose my song somehow, so started over. Would someone show me where am failing here?

Steps:

Import various .wav tracks from another recorder to a folder on my desktop, lets call the folder "Song 1".
All tracks in this folder are named by what they are, ie vocal, guitar, etc.
Open a new song in MX, drag in all tracks. Mix etc., save takes.
Delete desktop folder.
Song is gone.

So somewhere in here I am missing a save step, the problem is when I tell MX to "copy project files to" they still got lost, by me. User fail, undoubtedly, and I admit it.

Now for reference, I normally keep all my MX songs in a folder called "Mixcraft Files-safe" on my desktop, as I have a RAID type backup on that folder. Should I be starting from there instead with the whole imported tracks and folder they are in?

Sorry for beating the dead horse here.

MX 8.1 Pro Studio b418

Thanks - Mike

Yeah, there could be some trouble with that.

That folder is your project. Why do you delete it?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the question.
Stay in tune, Mark

Well, I "thought" it had saved everything to my mixcraft "files safe" folder. After lurking these boards I get what you are saying. If I understand this correctly, the tracks are not saved with the mix...

So, I am thinking I should have started the new song by putting the "song1" folder with all those imported tracks into my mixcraft main folder where I keep all the other songs.

Just making sure I get this so it does not happen again.

Thanks Mark

Mike

Hi,

Click on the File menu and select "Copy Project Files to..." to gather up all the files you need for a project and put them into a new folder.

Sure.

It's here:
Delete desktop folder.

Don't do that, the audio files for the project are in that folder.
