Settings for a natural Piano sound

Postby jdr4170 » Sat Dec 29, 2012 3:07 pm

Just getting into midi. How can I get good natural piano/bass guitar sound? What settings would someone recommend to get me started? Reverb, EQ, Comp ETC. The default setting sounds like am radio to me. I am very inexperienced.

Thanks,

John

For piano Pianissimo sounds great! If you have Mixcraft 6 Pro this would be my first choice. The Acoustica Instruments Stereo Grand is also fairly good. You can warm up these sounds or brighten them with eq as needed. The Pultronic Tube EQ has presets for Piano-Bright and Piano-Warm.

For Bass guitar check out some of the Bass instrument presets. I like several of them. To make these sound more natural in Midi you can play around with the velocity of the notes in the bass line to create emphasis and groove.

Which presets are you using that sound like "AM Radio"? Your speakers/monitors will also impact the sound. Do you have some good monitors or headphones?
