well i put a full project together. direct monitoring started to beak up after about 4 multitracks. I basically lowered volume levels rather than tweak latency and buffer.
default latency is 128 and buffer size 2. I did tweak the buffer back to 96 but it reset itself at 128 afterwards. I changed the buffer from 2 to 4 just to see what would happen but I can't hear any difference.
so the interface seems to be set optimally. mercifully the fragmenting audio was only output, the resulting wav and mp3 files were okay. Very tricky to get the volume right so you can dub along in real time but not freak the software.
but so far so good - i was using a
brace of FastTracks to record line-in instruments, microphone and guitars to the pc, at the moment I can input everything through one single UGM96 without having to take my eyes off the monitor, when in recording mode.
to live mix/dub i need to load Monitor Incoming Audio.
