Music Hosting Websites

Postby Studio 919 » Fri Mar 29, 2013 4:44 pm

I have not posted any of my music to any websites and don't know anything about them. I have listened to other people's music on Reverbnation, Sound Cloud, Sound Click, and Mixcraft Live. I'm thinking that I will use only one site and have a few questions.

1. Is it safe to post music to any of these sites without fear of someone "stealing" my work?
2. Can someone offer pro's and con's on these sites?
3. How easy (or hard) is it to start using one of them?
4. Is there a limit to how many songs (or file size) one can post?
5. Any other information I might need to know.

As you can tell, I'm being cautious.

Thanks in advance for the input.

pros & cons I've found:
soundclick-
you can put your song on the charts in various genres & see how they fare in the ratings
no upload limit and you can replace or update new versions or mixes in the same place.
you can sell downloads of your work.
the con is some people can't access it w/ their phone internet stuff.
and you can only upload mp3 format

soundcloud-
there is like a 2 hour limit on total time length but not file size & you can upload more file format types
more people seem to get the link easier.
you can't update a song unless you buy the paid service.

to me both sites have the same sound quality.
both are easy to use & have a step by step tutorial.
I use both & both are protected but it's always best to copyright & file your publishing w/ ASCAP,BMI,or even CESAC (if you're doing stagework like Broadway) first.
