How to practice a new Piano piece

Postby mick » Wed Jul 23, 2014 3:48 pm

This video shows Valentina Lasitsa beginning to play the Warsaw Concerto Piano piece for the very first time. And yes it is the girl that was shown playing the rickety Piano at St Pancreas  station a while back. Start from about 3mins in and bear in mind this is a first time reading.
She played this to perfection at the BBC proms in 2013 just four weeks later completely from memory.
The mind boggles.

..but then, get this - not a piece of sheet music anywhere!

I can identify with this - having been an 'ear specialist' all my life

It has to come from the heart, no? Imagine trying to interpret the individual notes, light, shade, dynamics, change of temp half way through ... from a piece of paper.
Keep on trackin'

Awesome! Makes me wish I didn't challenge my piano courses in university so I could actually have learned something in depth about the instrument.

The first 3 minutes or so pretty much sums up my entire practice routine these days except she didn't go to the Keurig after the first minute.

What on earth is a Keurig?
EDIT: Don't bother - I just googled it, in England it means "put the kettle on darling" :D
