Breath Controller Help

Postby kcoddahwerdna » Thu Jul 11, 2019 12:15 am

Hello!

I recently got myself a breath controller and have been attempting to use it on Mixcraft for quite some time now but I can't seem to find a way to make it work. As far as my knowledge goes, it has something to do with 'CC' assigning or something? Is it possible to use a breath controller on Mixcraft; if so, is there any VST's that come bundled with Mixcraft Pro Studio 7 that I would be able to test it on?

Any help on this matter would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

Which breath controller did you get, exactly?

Basically, you just need to find plugins that will work with it. Does the maker of the device recommend any plugins?

It's a TEControl USB MIDI Breath Controller. They recommend a short list of plugins that will work alongside of it. I was just hoping that some of the VSTs that were included in your software would work with it so I could try it out and get experienced with the set up before I decide on which plugin to purchase and what not. I'm very much a beginner in terms of MIDI and how all that works, so forgive my lack of knowledge. Will this breath controller only work with specific plugins?

Hi,

Well, Mixcraft will pick up CC messages like pitch bend, and many plugins included with Mixcraft would respond to pitch bend. Aftertouch is more rare, not sure which plugins pay attention to that.

What happens when you try? Is it set up to send MIDI notes and CC?

Is this the unit that you have? https://www.tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-breath-controller

Yes, that is the unit I am attempting to use! I understand that a large variety of plugins generally don't respond to something as advanced as a breath controller in the way I want them to, but I would just like to be able to use it for something like modulation or a pitch bend, as you said. I just don't know how to assign the breath controller to that type of thing?

This is the screen that I am at. Is this the correct settings menu or should be somewhere else? I've armed all MIDI devices (which is my keyboard controller and the breath controller) and am attempting to find a way to set up the breath controller with something like the LFO-pitch; but the 'CC' menu is blank. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? MIDI is not my forte, unfortunately. Any help is extremely appreciated!

Hi,

If your breath controller is sending MIDI notes and CC data, Mixcraft will just automatically record it. You don't have to do anything special on the Mixcraft side.

Record a MIDI clip, and then check it out.

Once you're recording that stuff, it's just a matter of choosing a VST and a preset that does what you want.
