Oh gee... I found the problem. The activate button to the left of "Effect" on the Effect List was off. How the heck did that happen??? Sorry to waste your time!

On an audio track with recorded vocals, I activate the plug in via the fx button. All I hear is the original track. There aren't any flashing lights or indication of activity...

I'll try the stack n split option and the video later today, thank you. In the meantime I found another work-around: I edited the Stereo Grand Piano by panning 100 to the right, then on the VI track I pan 50% left. That seems to center the complete keyboard range.
