Yeow, I was having same low input problems and was told to go to windows volume control. Click on options>properties and uncheck everything except your speakers, main volume and mic. Then go back to volume control>options and check advanced.Advanced box will be at bottom of mic volume. Click on that...

Playback fades and looses all quality in second or two
I took some great advice and got my mic very sensitive. Got a lot of hiss. Turned on noise suppression, lost hiss but now as soon as I hit the playback button It starts out perfectly then fades in volume and looses all quality.

Found the boost on my own. It changed my whole world. Mic is so sensitive that I Have to turn record volume down to nearly nothing. I have fought this for so long and it was that simple.
