also - try freezing tracks you're not working on. other tracks with effects on them eat up CPU in a hurry. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes it happens most where other tracks end, whether they're frozen or not -if you can, drag the ending spot of the culprit track out a little, or snip it of...

try this - use a condenser mic placed right about where your ear is (i.e., just off your left or right shoulder, about 12 - 18 inches from the guitar). Don't place the microphone directly in front of the sound hole - all you'll get is boomy bass. Aim the mic about at the point where the fretboard me...

I recently purchased the M-Audio Session USB mic at my local Best Buy ( http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/SessionMusicProducer.html ). It includes the ASIO drivers, so there's essentially 0 latency on my system. It works great, sounds great, awesome condenser microphone! A few things about it, t...

good tips Eric - Here's a few more for the output end of recording: Have a few different kinds of speakers available for playback. Back in the day, I had a set of really nice studio monitors, some plain-jane regular home stereo speakers, and a set of car speakers mounted in a box that I'd switch pla...

Ozone is kind of pricey - if you're looking for free, check out Broadcast from Jeroen Breebaart. In fact, grab all of his freebies (Omnisone is incredible as a widener, and the brickwall limiter works very well, too - both of those are included as part of the Broadcast VST). He's got nice usage guid...

Workflow - compress, limit, expand & enhance
HI - new to MC but not recording. I've got a request for feedback and opinions on final mixing - I've read that some folks prepare a final mix, output to WAV and then load that into MC for additional tweaks (compression, limiting, sonic enhancement, etc.) - I've also tried doing these tasks while do...
