I tried downloading a codecs pack once (not sure but think it was from downloads.com) and ended up with malware -- plus the codecs, wherever they ended up on my system, appeared to have no effect. Sorry. I just solved my own problem. I was transferring my song between computers before playing it back -- and the version of Mx6 that I was playing on had preferences set incorrectly, hence the static.
