Mixcraft/Preference backup
Based on recommendation from my IT tech, once a year or so I do a fresh install of Windows. According to him its the only sure fire way to clean all of the crap out of the system and get Win running as smooth and efficiently as possible. That requires a "from scratch" reinstall all softwar...

Re: Optimize your PC for Mixcraft!
Microsoft reports that Win 10 Creators Update has a "gaming mode" that optimizes the computer so that systems resources are focused on the gaming app and minimizes superfluous background activities. Will this have any positives for Mixcraft?
Re: Dual boot
I'm on Win 7 64 bit, i7-3.4Ghz, 16Mb RAM. It used to be that you had to go through a pretty long winded optimization procedure for XP making extensive revisions to Power Mgt, write caching, processor scheduling, registry settings, etc. I get the impression that the speed and power of machines has gr...
Re: Dual boot
Professional computer engineer, huh? Well I'm a professional dunce  . . . at least when it come to computers so I'm thoroughly grateful for both of you chiming in. Setting up User Accounts? I can probably figure that out since its kind of SOP in Winny World. So are you saying that I can set u...
Dual boot
I was thinking about creating a dual boot Win system, setting one OS for "household" stuff like email, web browsing, etc. and another optimized just for Mixcraft. One question I had. . . do I necessarily need to put my Mixcraft install on the same drive/partition as the "Mixcraft OS&q...

Re: "Step" playback
Excellent!!! I've looked at recording chords and rendering them to samples that can be triggered from a keyboard. Special file formats, additional (expensive) sample software, keyboard mapping. . . . whew! Every head of a high school stage band could give kids a midi file of chord changes on a jump ...

"Step" playback
I notice MC7 has added step editing. I've been looking for a step playback feature similar to what PG Music (Band-In-A-Box) used to have in their "Pianist" series. You could play back their midi files in the notation window a step at a time by pressing the the cursor keys. I'm working on b...

Re: Make and trigger my own samples
I'm just looking to record chords or brief snippets from the piano or guitar and save as samples to be triggered from a keyboard or other midi controller. . . . no transposition, velocity switching, mangling or other fancy stuff. I DID find out about Shortcircuit and downloaded it to my VST folder s...

Make and trigger my own samples
I want to record custom sounds for playback when triggered from a keyboard or midi controller. Only one problem. . . . I know NOTHING about samplers or midi mapping, etc. I can record the sounds into Mixcraft, but have no clue where to go from there. Anybody have any suggestions?

Burning vinyl LP's to digital
I'm recording some of my old vinyl to digital. I record and entire side into a "Master Project File". In between tracks I briefly punch PAUSE and back to RECORD. This gives me separate clips that I easily identify and then CUT, open a new project with the name of the individual song, then ...

My Audiophile mixer screen isn't as elegant as yours, but the same basic functions are there. I would paste a screen print, but I don't know how. In any event, my line level signal levels (POD, keyboards, etc.) register just fine. I've checked the mic cables and signal's coming through fine, but sti...

Setting recording levels
I'm having trouble setting recording levels. I have an Mackie 1202 into an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 running ASIO drivers. When I mike my guitar amp my soundcard software registers a good input level, but it hardly creates a blip in Mixcraft. Conversly, if I dime my preamp I register a decent record l...
