Living My Life Online

As a longterm user of Mixcraft, I keep churning out the tracks (even tho few listen to them lol), so here's another!! Played it all meself, and this time I tried to get a more 70s/80s feel, McCartney bass, that kind of thing. Mixed and mastered by me, and Mark super kindly & patiently listened t...

Here And Now - too late for a lockdown song?

I'd forgotten that I wrote this song during the 'orrible bits of our pandemic/lockdown back in April, with time on my hands, and feeling a bit isolated. It's a simple song really, and I forgot to share it here with you guys to get your feedback and suggestions. Made a conscious effort to not over-pr...

Re: Pick Up The Pieces - original song

I really enjoyed this! I have not ever put together anything close to that level of quality. Thanks for explaining your strategy with using panning and effects. I thought as the song progressed your vocal sat a little better in the mix as the other instruments came in. I was wondering if you did an...

Re: Pick Up The Pieces - original song

How did you mix the vocals? Most amateur recordings really mess up the mix on the vocals - usually too loud and out front or masked with tons of reverb. Your vocals sit really nicely and are distinct yet blend in with the music. Ooooh... great question! Thanks for taking the time to listen and to w...

Rolling Estonian wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 8:17 am Can't you just grab the bottom of the track and make it larger?
That works for a really hot signal, definitely. But for quieter stuff, saving cranking my preamps (and it's fine in 24bit, lots of headroom), the data is hardly visible, to do close clip editing?

Re: Voicemeeter Banana/Potato

I too had a go with these last month. To be brutally honest, I found them ridiculously convoluted with questionable sound quality! I got way better results with careful configuration of Zoom (noise suppression, careful level control), and using outboard compression, although Zoom being mono didn't h...

Waveform Height

Can we adjust waveform height now?
I remember posting about this 4yrs ago here.
(Back then as now I was normalising temporarily, now with the gain knob I might stay that way and dial it down to avoid master overload.)

Apologies if this is somewhere, I can't find it.

Re: Here And Now original "lockdown" song

Yeah, I was listening on the computer, didn't think about phones. It just sounded like it could be more ethereal like it is in the middle eight section, giving it a slightly blown away effect. Sure, lots of things could be done if you make different versions :D Interesting point Ian! The bridge doe...

Re: Here And Now original "lockdown" song

Very nice, apart from the bass notes being too loud - a narrowish cut of a good few db at either 132hz or 150-160hz seems to sort it out :) thanks for listening Ian! I don't disagree, that's a great point thanks for spotting! part of me likes it a bit boomy, kind of like McCartney's "Another D...

Re: Here And Now original "lockdown" song

Yeah, she has "a few acoustics" I refer you to the obsessed bit! But (to justify it lol), gotta focus on what goes IN first eh? And the improvement in recordings has had nothing to do with equipment fwiw. It is, IMO, practice and experimentation. And more practice. Just keep doing i...
