Hit the gear icon and you can choose whatever you want to see in the mixer window - even show or hide tracks.

When downloading Mixcraft 10, there is an option to 'associate with other Mixcraft projects' Was that option checked?

Also, if you right click on a MX9 project you should have the option to 'Open With'... If you choose MX10, will it open?
