I think I see what you are getting at. The tracks in question are playing back through Toontrack, with no actual midi on Mixcraft track. I will check this out. Thanks Greg.

Hi, When using more than one virtual instrument, each on its own track, sometimes not all of them will produce sound on playback. Usually, they will play when I click on the individual instrument track that is not working, but they do not start on their own. Anyone know why this is? Is there a fix? ...

This problem has disappeared now that I have disabled all VST3 plug-ins and am using their VST2 and VST counterparts. No time or inclination on my part to sort through them all and see which ones might be the offenders. No real advantage to VST3 for my purposes anyway. Thanks JonInc for pointing me ...

Interface is a Focusrite 18i20 1st generation. The plug ins being used are nothing unusual and from vendors with a proven track record. Sound Toys, Plug in alliance, Tokyo Dawn Labs, etc. All of them work fine in Sonar and Studio One. But I will look into this angle further. And perhaps I will also ...

I also like Overloud stuff. This EQ is pretty decent. (and the price is right)

Another thing to keep in mind is that even studio "pros", who have great monitors and listening environments, still sometimes use headphones to double check details like reverb tails.
