Re: volume boost?

Same problem.

Testing with Sonalksis FreeG:

3 instances of the mono plugin = 18 db volume jump
3 instances of the stereo plugin = 0 dB volume jump

Re: volume boost?

Thanks for letting us know Greg but as far as I can tell ALL mono plugins boost the level by 6dB each; i.e. simply by inserting a chain of 5 mono plugins the signal is upped by 30 dB, which can't be right. "The issue that some mono plugins seem to boost the level?" Have you actually found a mono plu...

Re: volume boost?

Unfortunately my PC is old and has no available expansion slot for a graphics card. Need to win the lottery... Off topic again: although I'm not a Marshall man myself (although I did have a great little 20w 1x12 piggyback setup back in the early '70s) the Simulanalog Marshall is still highly regarde...

Re: volume boost?

Hi again, unfortunately I can't use the PRS Supermodels due to graphics card limitations so I use GTR (v9.3 for the same reason). Mind you every cloud has a silver lining and one of my favourites, the Simulanalog Rednef Twin, benefits from the 6dB anomaly. Sounds great with the bass rolled off compl...

Re: volume boost?

Hi again Dale - I've just discovered that the Waves PRS SuperModels don't have a stereo version, only mono and mono/stereo. Based on what's I've seen so far I'd be surprised if the gain isn't already 6dB too hot when using those plugins.

Re: volume boost?

Hi Dale - thanks for doing that. No, it's not a real problem - just a little inconvenient that's all, having to fiddle-arse about with FreeG each time. It's more about letting the developers know that there is some sort of bug. Earlier posts have pointed to a Pan Law problem but it's still to be con...

Re: volume boost?

I've just re-read your post and you're right - there's no difference between the mono and mono/stereo plugins. The problem is that they are both incorrectly upping the gain, which doesn't happen with the stereo version. I only came across this problem because I use the GTR Drive amp exclusively with...

Re: volume boost?

That's interesting - if you get a moment could you try adding nothing but the Waves GTR Tuner (which is mono only) and confirm that there's no volume change when you turn it on and off?

Re: Melodyne v Waves Tune

I use Waves Tune quite happily with Cubase Elements 9.5. but some time ago I gave up trying to get get Waves Rewire to work with Mixcraft, which incidentally is not supported by Waves. However, Mixcraft Pro's built-in and perfectly synchronized Melodyne works great, with the added bonus that it can ...

Re: volume boost?

While this volume thing is being investigated I'm using Waves GTR Tool Rack stereo plugin instead of the mono/stereo version but I'm not really sure where I stand. Is there something going on internally which makes the stereo version unsuitable for a guitar's mono input? Or is the only reason for ha...

Re: volume boost?

Forgot to mention: - Waves GTR mono on the 3rd effect slot - the level going in is 6dB too loud - Add Waves GTR Tuner (a mono only plugin) to the 2nd slot - the level is now 12dB too loud. - Add FreeG mono in the first slot to drop the level, which just by adding FreeG is now 18dB too loud. The leve...

Re: volume boost?

I don't know if it's relevant but I've done a bit more testing with Dead Duck's SigGen plugin, set to white noise, on a channel's first effects slot followed by the Mono and then the Stereo instance of FreeG. when the mono FreeG is activated there's a very noticeable leap in volume but not when the ...

Re: volume boost?

Yes and I'm afraid it's still the same. Using Waves GTR3 the mono and mono/stereo instances are quite a bit louder than the stereo version, which sounds as it should. Hard to tell exactly how much louder without proper metering but, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, it looks about 6dB.
