Where would a memory upgrade help?

My "new" computer (actually a refurbed i5-gen 3) has 8 GB. Upgradable to 32 Where would I notice a difference? Thinking of adding 16 - the way it's configed that would give me 20 (it has four banks of 2 now - and from everything I read I can put in memory on any of those slots, don't have to worry a...

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9

Hmmm - it's never happened to me before, making me think the default has changed. I always saw all the clips as recorded the next segment - it never muted any of them. Anyway, now that know, problem solved. Thanks again! (PS - I like MX9 very much; I'm using the "light" theme; step editor is great; ...

Re: V9 question - gain knob

A couple questions, though now we're getting into something beyond the original topic Why would use both the 3 band and the parametric EQ? And if say one of your effects shapes the tone significantly, wouldn't you want to EQ after that effect as well? Is there a value in EQ before and after effects?...

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9

Thanks - I will try that later when I'm at my home computer.

Interesting - I've been using Mixcraft since version 6 or maybe before and this never happened. A new option or a new default?

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9

Sorry for the multiple posts. I rebooted and things are generally back to normal - but my original post still holds. When I have a clip on the track to the left of where I now want to record, with the track armed and when I hit the record button, all the clips are get muted automatically. This happe...

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9

OK - maybe it's a memory issue? I had two instances of Mixcraft open and also some other applications. 8 GB memory. Because when I went to unmute all the clip,s the screen went black, then a display error message, then that instance of Mixcraft shut down. And my screen has a weird rectangle of ":stu...

Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9

This seems like a strange one. I recorded a guitar chord part on a track. Once I'm ok I want now to record at the end of that clip - same track. I have my cursor on the start of the measure, the track is armed, I hit the record button - and all the clips on that track before where the recording will...

Re: New computer - issues upon issues

BTW - they did finally get back to me with suggestions on how to get the old versions of the plugins working. I saved the email in case I ever switch computers again (didn't read it thoroughly and it sounded more complex than simply installing the older version of Waves Central) - but the version 11...

Re: V9 question 2 - detach everything?

By "detaching the tracks" I did not mean the tracks on the mixer - I meant on the main screen that shows the clip(s).

Again, I don't see a reason for doing it; from the picture in "new in 9" it looked like it did.

Re: Convert to midi

I'm giving up on the idea - but thanks for the responses. No such thing as a free lunch. Running an audio file to convert to midi so I can lean the part seemed too good to be true. It only works on parts so simple there is no problem learning them without converting to midi. (On the Melodyne version...

Re: V9 question - gain knob

Probably an academic question (which EQ comes first) I would think "best practice" would be to use one or the other, not both. I always realize how little I know about mixing though. I never really occurred to me to put anything but gain on before effects. Why for example would I want to EQ sound I ...

Re: Convert to midi

Last post for this - I took a bass line and it worked.

So I guess the problem with the guitar was the dynamics (the bends etc)

And the piano was the multiple notes (like a chord)

Re: Convert to midi

Even a very simple guitar solo with distinct notes come back as one single note played in time with the original.

Has anyone used this feature successfully?

Re: Convert to midi

OK - so I load Melodyne and it said I needed to activate (although I know I did) but I humored it and it said "activation updated". Then the conversion worked - sort of. It took a simple part that had chords and converted it to simply one note playing in time with the original. So I assume it can't ...

Convert to midi

I have a relatively simple piano part in an audio file; I took it and broke it into smaller clips. I figured to help learn it I'd use the convert to midi feature. I right click select convert to midi. After a while it comes back with "No notes were detected in the audio clip. Melodyne must be regist...
