Re: Blue Sky...

you know what would help...going forward too... as you know I'm trying more recording with compression/limiting at source... we lull ourselves to thinking "hey, we've got plugins, we can process it afterwards, I've got 24bits here, I can record quiet, just get the signal in" but, I disagree these da...

Re: Blue Sky...

the better you get it from the start, the easier the mix process and the better the end result. Consistently. Fighting with inferior recordings is a frustrating process and the end result is just never quite satisfying. Cant say it enough. Put the effort in at the start. Jumping eagerly ahead never...

High Pass Slopes

hiya folks

much as I love TDR Nova, I'm stuck between a HP of 24db/oct and 72db/oct...nothing inbetween...like say 48db/oct...
I know eg FabFilter has that, but I'm all about the Freeware....

Re: Blue Sky...

Nicky, great work! Unless I missed it you didn't mention anything about microphones or mic placement when it comes to recording acoustic. I too am looking for a better acoustic sound and I can't seem to get that "realism". :D Ah right, yes, you're quite right, sorry! Hmmm. This has been a tricky on...

Re: Blue Sky...

I'm really enjoying your performances on the vocals and guitars and the lush, spacious mix. Wow. You are a really good mixer and masterer. MIDI instrument programming is nice, too. You did the video shoot all on a mobile phone? I'm curious what software you used to edit the video (if it wasn't Mixc...

Re: Guide Track?

Not sure if it contributes, but I'll chime in and say that I often work up my songs by laying down rudimentary tracks that I replace with more finished tracks. I do this too. And yes it's time consuming. No way am I going to pay for band in a box (but looks good). I'd quite like a chord generator i...

Re: Free VSTs/VSTis: what have you used...

I'm still interpreting this thread as what FREE plugins have I used...(I'm all about the freeware!) There's been some brilliant suggestions here!!!! I'd really only add to those already listed:- TDR VOS Slick EQ (outstanding) Klanghelm IVGI A1stereocontrol (wonderful, but could be better) HornetFatF...

Re: Melodyne problems.

A couple of months ago I midly disliked Melodyne. But I was quite wrong - it's very functional, but HARD to use. Splitting a section of audio and mixing to a new clip before entering Melodyne does help I find. You can also like in the menus to use "no snap" to nudge notes slightly, or use chromatic ...

Re: Blue Sky...

Lovely! Having expressed your fondnesss for cake, I think you deserve an extra slice for this one! I listened repeatedly, and enjoyed everything about it-- lyrics, sentiment, fine guitar work and vocals, and beautifully smooth mix. Many thanks for sharing this with us. Rick. The video is also pleas...

Blue Sky...

Without Mixcraft, and without the help and support of people here, and our Mark (who is wonderful) specifically, I wouldn't be continuing to produce my own songs as such an interesting hobby now that my children are older! Here's a new one from me, I appreciate any/all your criticism, help and advic...

Re: On the lookout for a good track compressor

A list would be good...kind of to have a standard?
Even just for myself!
Otherwise literally every new project I go hunting for a good track compressor.
I agree Mark, MCompressor might be the one...a bit ugly...I kind of like those Russian ones! lol

Re: Tempo Map

I've done a song with a lot of tempo changes in Mixcraft, to give it the feel of naturally accelerating slightly (a more "human" feel), and I can say that it works quite well. The problem comes of course when there's a time signature change (think The Stranglers "Golden Brown" or Pink Floyd "Money")...

Re: On the lookout for a good track compressor

Does anyone actually use any of the MC built-in compressors? Why does MC8 not have a simple general purpose compressor that meets the following?? (1) clearly labelled simple controls carefully numbered ie threshold, attack, ratio, knee, release, makeup gain (2) in, out, gain reduction meters prefera...
