Re: Needing a new interface
Yeah tech is so good now I doubt you could buy a bad (new) AI if you tried, and the diff's between them keeps shrinking. A lot of "pros" hate to hear that though, and insist it's not true. Not sure why...maybe because having the pricier stuff has at least given the appearance of being bett...

Re: Not Another Free Plugin Thread
Loopcloud - not technically a plugin but gave the appearance of one so FWIW: apparently something that's a front-end UI to a place on the 'net where you can view, hear, download and upload loops. Despite the name it said "samples" in the desc, which to me are not loops, and despite the &qu...

Re: Using both 32 bit and 64 bit Mixcraft - potential pitfalls?
I'll be honest, I didn't read all that. :) But I will tell you I have a measly Celeron PC and 4GB RAM and 64-bit MC installed. Works fine, though granted I haven't tried to use a full-up orchestra and a zillion tracks, but I do use a lot of MIDI and layered sounds. It just seems far too complex and ...

Re: Upgrading my machine
Just for a point of reference, I happened to stroll through the local big-box store today. They had an 8th gen i5 2.8 GHz 8400 (6 core) 8 gig RAM desktop with a 1Tb SATA drive on sale for $499. Ram expandable to 32G. A similar machine with an additional 4 Gigs of RAM and an added 128G SSD was $599,...

Re: Needing a new interface
By bad, I mean, its very noticable. Don't know the exact ms. It worked on my laptop, but was horrible when I switched to a desktop. Then it's probably an issue with the desktop, not the AI. But yeah 1st gen 2i2's should be avoided like the plague. Agree that Steinburgs are solid, as are Behringers.

Re: Kontakt 5 problem
If I didn't know better I'd say NI and Avid were the same company...they both have that Microsoft "we know you're hooked so we don't care if our stuff is buggy and/or user-unfriendly as hell" attitude. Plus I've seen enough of it as well as headaches others have had to know they'll likely ...

Re: Upgrading my machine
Never had an SSD so can't speak to how much of a diff it would make. You could probably do a search and find % info, but mostly I'd think that would help when booting your DAW and such, not so much when working in the DAW itself. That's where memory and the CPU reign. I've really no doubt the upgrad...

Re: Upgrading my machine
I can't say 100% for sure but feel confident the memory upgrade is your best move by far. And the cheaper. Win/win.

Re: Why no 88.2kHz and 176.4kHz Sample Rates available for Mix Down
The day I have to put effort into simply listening to music and enjoying from an "untechnical"/unanalytical viewpoint is the day I sell all my gear and say eff it.

Re: White noise in audio recordings?
I have the same issue, the mics I'm using pick up everything, what I end up doing is using Izotope's Voice De-Noise plugin (https://www.izotope.com/en/products/rep ... ments.html). I measure the noise in the room ahead of time and it completely removes it when I record vocals or acoustic guitars et...

I've heard it about the 2d gens too, though mostly about the lower-end (e.g. 2i2) ones.Acoustica Greg wrote:2nd gen. Focusrites seem to be pretty good - 1st gen. Focusrites not so much.

Re: USB Interface Recommendations
I may have mentioned earlier but in case not: I've heard too many stories about people having issues with Focusrites to ever be interested in one. They sound great "when they work." It's the last part that bothers me.

Re: Why no 88.2kHz and 176.4kHz Sample Rates available for Mix Down
If you're going to do some reserah, it's best to stick with authorities on the topic. If you're going to state something that is clearly in contravention to known scientific fact, then you better have some extraordinary evidence to support it. I agree. So why don't you provide some scientific resea...
