In Mixcraft, click on the File menu and select Preferences. In the Sound Device preferences, are you using Wave, ASIO or WaveRT? If the latter two are not available, try reducing your buffer size to 4096.

What's causing the hissing? It's better to not have any noise than to have to try to remove it.

Make sure your recording levels are high enough. Turning up quiet recordings can cause hiss.
