Re: Bass guitar recording VERY low
maybe the preamp is just stronger in the Zoom. how high can you turn up the Line 6's input knob w/out getting into yellow or red before you start seeing the wave form? another option is to do the bass track, add a compressor or limiter to "beef up" the track then choose "mixdown to new...

Re: Bass guitar recording VERY low
If it sounds good, and fits in the mix without large level changes, I don't worry too much about how the waveform LOOKS . Often, it is nice to have enough visual cues to aid in editing and such, but don't get too hung up on the visual interpretation. Great advice! Yeah I should concentrate more on ...

Re: Bass guitar recording VERY low
Hi there, first thing to try is to just play the bass through a normal bass amp, or guitar amp at a low volume, and see if the bass sounds low in output via that before you go chasing the low level fault in the DAW, Hi, I have no real bass amp. I might try my guitar practice amp. I don't believe it...

Re: Bass guitar recording VERY low
Had some posts on the use of gearbox while recording before. In gearbox itself there are gain adjustments that can get your recording level up. Yes there are. I'm just having to go beyond the normal levels. I think I got "ebayed" with this Line 6 unit without a kiss. I ran the bass throug...

Re: Bass guitar recording VERY low
Yeah I just tried turning up input gain past the 0. The bass still records small looking. Before turning up the input gain the original recordings still sat well in the mix but still looked small. So yes the bass sounds good alone too. I've got a Gearbox model. No choice I can see of instrument or ...

Bass guitar recording VERY low
I was watching Mixcraft Studio Tips-Getting A Great Bass Sound video and noticed how bold Eric's bass .wav was. Mine is like non existent. You have to zoom WAY in! I can hear it playing fine through headphones. But it doesn't show up "loud" in the track volume (barely lights up). It shows ...

Re: Acoustica Compressor setting for sustained bass guitar
If you want to extend the sustained note of the bass on a recording with Mixcraft you can do so by isolating it from the rest of the clip with a cut, then apply Time Stretch. If the maximum time stretch is not enough, you can always fake it further by cutting the clip of the note into smaller segme...

Re: Acoustica Compressor setting for sustained bass guitar
just slap some new strings on it then give it a proper setup or @ least adjust the pickup heights and see what happens. I use a cheap Fullerton bass I got for almost free & an old 80's Peavey Fury that WAS free (a rescue) and both of them sustain for days. as for panning separate bass tracks in...

@gypsy101
Thanks for the links. I thought a lot about an active pickup and a bone nut. Those would cost more than I paid for the bass. But I'm willing to do that. Yeah Dan's awesome-I have one of his books.

Re: Acoustica Compressor setting for sustained bass guitar
Cannot help with the sustain but sometimes to make drums sound fuller I duplicate the track and pan one to the left and the other to the right. Then sometimes I zoom all the way out and offset one track very little to the other on the timeline. I did this on a friend's vocal track. I offset them by...

What about a different pickup? Would using an active one make a difference with computer based recording?

Re: Acoustica Compressor setting for sustained bass guitar
Thanks gypsy, I should have mentioned 80's hard rock sound. Everyone hitting a chord/note-singing over that-then you play your riff-back to vocals/whole note.......cliche maybe but-that's what I wanted. Bass wasn't making it! I've got the Classic Collection in my folder. For a time I was using the G...
