Reinstalling XP
I received Win7 last night in the mail, and I decided to create two partitions - one for Win7 and one for XP. I dug up an old XP disk from a dead computer and since the license is tranferable I can use it on my new computer. But I was told that Microsoft is ending support of XP in July. That means S...

Is there anything I can plug directly into the line-in or mic-in to easily tell if I fried it? Without the need for a pre-amp? That is, if I plug my iPod into the mic-in or line-in, can I simply listen to it in Media Player or something to prove that it works (or prove that it doesn't)? Also - you m...

I will double check to be sure I don't have anything muted. I tried a couple times running a cord from the headphone out on the amp to the line-in on the card with no sound. I plugged headphones into the amp to be sure it worked - and forgot I had it all the way up. THAT was a flashback to my days i...

I know miking the amp is best; but in the interest of peace and quiet in the house (this is a hobby, not a profession) I plug into the computer and monitor with headphones. So my question (again) is Do the more expensive PCI cards need a preamp also? Could I get good results from my Turtle Beach Riv...

PCI Sound Cards
I get very low recording levels plugging my guitar directly into the line-in or mic-in jacks. (I record that way and monitor with headphones so IÔÇÖm not heard throughout the house.) I tried plugging my amp into the line-in/mic-in plugs by running a cable from the headphone out plug on the amp Ô...

IÔÇÖm going to start a more specific thread on PCI cards, but I want to wrap this up first. Many thanks to the people who have responded. The information is very helpful. Eric ÔÇô interesting that XP is the OS of choice. I wish I could get it on my Vista machine. IÔÇÖm sure youÔÇÖre righ...

Thank you both for your responses. Greg/Dan/Eric ÔÇô sorry if I misrepresented your views on the PCI vs USB issue. I recall someone saying they used an E-Mu 0202 at a show and I may have mistaken that for an endorsement over PCI. As of today, IÔÇÖm happy with the results IÔÇÖve gotten with ...

Questions on recording guitar or keyboard into Mixcraft 5
I've searched through the forums fairly carefully and found a great deal of helpful information. I'd like to summarize it based on my (limited) experience and ask some follow-up questions. I have a Turtle Beach Riviera sound card. I also have two USB devices: an M-Audio Micro (that came with their S...

Change effects within a given track?
I'm a new user - having just purchased the musicians bundle. Seems very similar to M-Session Audio, but I like the support of VST and VSTi. My question is - can you change an effect within a track? For example, if I'm playing a guitar solo, and in the middle want to turn on or off trmelo, can that b...

Tempo not quite right?
I've downloaded the trial version of Beatcraft and it's everythign I hoped it woudl be. However, there is one problem that I hope can be fixed. I am currently using M-Audio Session to record my music via guitar and keyboard. Of course there are far better products out there, but it was inexpensive a...
