Re: Metering observations and questions (long)

how do you guys rate the Span VST? (I'm all about the freeware...) I've been using that for a number of years, it seems to flag up clipping & crest values nicely, and also give me a reasonable view (nearly as good as fabfilter) of the 15k-20k area (where I always seem to go wrong) at the same ti...

Re: Back looking for inspiration!

http://i68.tinypic.com/2d0nmab.jpg Building a #tinyhomestudio is helping!!!! It's literally the smallest space in the house, if we had a dog they'd have more space than me here... But, having everything easily setup all the time definitely helps, I've never had that before! Recording a new song, an...

Back looking for inspiration!

Hey folks. Slightly over a year since I posted here, and I used to be a very active member. But since then I can't even spell mujo. See? Mejo. I lost my mogo. Mohgo. My job went down the toilet. My teenage sons began to generate a lot of worry (that's what they're for!). I restyled the downstairs ro...

Re: In A Moment (MsNickybee)

Hiya good folks!! I'm....kinda on a break too. Not like Rachel and Ross in Friends, but the good kind... a break from recording music. Been spending huge amounts of time doing that thing we call work, sorting out the house, dealing with grumpy teenagers, and listening to a lot of music inspiration -...

Re: In A Moment (MsNickybee)

Specially I got my mind stuck on the way the two acoustic rythm guitars combine each other, but each on its own channel. At 03:25 they create this cool rhythm together. You've hit upon one of my most fav parts of the track...that L channel part where it's fingerpicked with a sync'd delay line, I'm ...

Re: In A Moment (MsNickybee)

One of the big things I loved about this was the 5 tempo jumps (count 'em!) I initially programmed in for each section, to build tension and engagement and remove the computerised feel, tried to make it work.... Mark particularly brought out my initial use of the recorder, and really held onto those...

Re: *** Plugins Poll ***

Some of this has already been mentioned. I'll stick to freeware thoughts too. (1) EQ The mixer EQ could be more of a useful channel strip? With Q control. And the excellent GLX4070 is consigned to ProStudio, how many folks use this? I do. Similarly, the TB Parametric in ProStudio is perfectly fine, ...

Why would you not view the mix waveform in Mixcraft as a matter of interest?

Re: Mastering in Mixcraft.

My 2 cents... I master in Mixcraft (limiting, effects, etc.) then open the output in Audacity. That way I can see what is really going on Why do you think that mastering in eg a separate Mixcraft project doesn't allow you to "see what is going on?". I'm interested. Rock On !!! I'll try, b...

Re: Electronic Music (Original)

hi Dave I've had a few listens to this, and, most importantly... I like it. Seriously do. I think that's the hard thing composing, writing music, it can be technically amazing, but it needs that hook, that listenability. I like the interaction between the guitar phrases, drum track, but my favourite...

Re: Biting the Windows 10 bullet

Anniversary update successful yesterday for me, took about 15mins.
Windows 10 with a SSD is really lovely stuff.
Well, to be honest, I say this as someone who also uses Windows 8 at work - that's a right old mess.

Re: This Way Up

A very pretty song, the arrangement supports without overwhelming the vocal, very nice. I'll never be brave enough for self-video, so kudos all around! Thanks so much! My kind of thing is to mix quite stereo right from the start, which is naughty I know (against every rule book), and orchestrate mo...
