Re: Omni Sampler issue

The sampled sound has to be longer than about four seconds to expose the problem. A crash cymbal hit hard can require about double that before it becomes inaudible. I first noticed the issue when I made my own crash sample that lasted about eight seconds and loaded it into OmniSampler. I then applie...

Re: Omni Sampler issue

Greg, there is no particular file that causes the problem; you can load an mp3 music file into OmniSampler in order to gauge the speed of the decay during playback. As I explained, create a midi clip with at least four measures containing whole notes that are tied so they produce a continuous sound ...

Omni Sampler issue

Greg, A while ago I pointed out an issue with OmniSampler in that it fades off too quickly, making it unsuitable for use with crash cymbal samples. I was asked in an email to provide a file to demonstrate this but I was about to leave for holiday and completely forgot about it on my return. However,...

Re: Free VSTi virtual instrument recommendation list

The snare on MT Power Drum Kit 2 is just too irritating for my taste. I did communicate with the developers a year or so back suggesting they modify the software to allow the importation of audio samples. The reply I got back said they were considering it, but it looks like they never bothered in th...

Re: New PC in the UK

Bear in mind that if you're not into playing games, you won't require fancy expensive graphics cards for a music production computer.

Free drumkit VSTi

Just to let people know, because we all like decent free stuff, that a free version of the Jamstix drum kit software is available for download. https://www.rayzoon.com/?SRC=GJS3SITE&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7-37562o4gIVEVgVCB0Q9go-EAEYASAAEgI8nvD_BwE#free_version I found it a bit fiddly figuring out ho...

Re: Making samples

Okay, thanks, I've got it.

Unfortunately, the manual doesn't really explain the 'Use Selection' feature sufficiently. After absorbing the advice and cross-referencing the manual, I was completely bewildered for about five minutes before figuring it out.

Re: Making samples

There is no tail left outstanding. I cut the clip at 1.25 beats and also fade it off at the end with the volume envelope. I'm wondering if I'm experiencing a Mixcraft minimum size of mixed-down file, because I imported a very short snare sample file (1.13 beats) and tried saving that to a .wav file,...

Making samples

I'm attempting to make some custom samples of snare drums. However, I'm finding that the .wav file I'm saving is unnecessarily long. With Mixcraft set at 120bpm, the original edit makes the clip last for 1.25 beats, but I'm finding that after I load the mixed-down .wav file back into Mixcraft, the l...

Omni Sampler

I've been using the Omni-Sampler to put together a drum kit. However, I noticed that the tail of the crash cymbals was not sustaining as long as the sample. I then realised that Omni-Sampler is only playing the sample for a short period before fading it off. Release is at full, yet it will not accom...

Re: Recommendations for a good set of headphones for mixing?

But I recommend mixing with studio monitors rather than headphones. If you do a mix with studio monitors, it can be pretty well guaranteed that you'll find something amiss when listening to the result through good headphones, particularly with regard to detail, and when switching between stereo and...

Re: Manage Plug-ins question

I had the same thing happen to me around the end of last December and reported it in this forum. One day I opened a project and found that my 'Collections' had vanished. I've still not got round to rebuilding it all. ...and I had some questions and comments for you back then. So I noticed when I lo...

Re: MT Power Drums 2

I've now found a free sample player, Sitala, with 16 outs, so I'll be giving that a go later.
