Re: Buying a New Interface

++ here for the Audient id14, I bought one last week, really very good! Love it. Outstanding build quality. Focusrite? I'm in the "No" camp sadly, I had one and it lasted a week before failing, and the build quality was inferior to this Audient. They seem popular though, I see them in ever...

Re: Calm

I like this... a LOT. Definitely something that George Michael would put some lyrics to. I know it's Chill/Ambient, but that's a real possibility with this, I think it's that good. Seriously. Would love to hear a better version than SoundCloud offers, why not put a simple video together, and get it ...

Re: That time when you realise you might actually have to spend real *money* on a Plugin?

One characteristic of that delay they used that I focused on, was how 'soft' the feedback was. Almost as if they had a way to shape the envelope for it. Maybe a delay on Send track, heavily EQ'd? Dynamic EQ? Multiband compression? Transient designer? Multiple delays? Delay combined with reverb? Cer...

Re: How can I Sidechain Gate a Kick Drum?

get comfortable with the Sidekick6 VST I thought id have to acquire a taste for Dubstep, but found it surprisingly easy! Just a Sidekick in "send" mode on the track(s) providing the music you want to duck in volume (maybe a synth) and a Sidekick in "receive" mode on the track be...

Re: And She's Gone

considering a slight tempo bump in the bridge? The potential nightmare of adjusting the tracks for it is scary. I've tried this, seems to work best if you split all tracks at the point of any tempo change, and have all set to "adjust to project tempo". Use lots of markers! I suppose techn...

Re: Best I can

Thanks nicky , I had trouble pitching the vocal at first , singing a b note in places over a c lydian verse , so I created a piano part playing the vocal melody to pitch to and then deleted it after tracking. That's a good idea! Less confident singers would use that track as a midi input into pitch...

Re: Best I can

This song is dedicated to a friend who passed away last year , and to all of those who feel the clouds of depression on a daily basis. It took me a long time to finish this , but I think the results are okay. https://soundcloud.com/stephen-thomas-o ... best-i-can Hi Steve And let me say IMHO it's m...

Re: On Compression. Very helpful article.

hmmm, fair enough, completely understand and I.... almost concur on the debate around 96k (and higher) and 24bit for home music playback (although personally I'm convinced about it for HiFi playback as I've got a HiFi snob iBasso player - but not a Pono, but that's another story) no, I was mentionin...

Re: And She's Gone

It's a really great song! maybe double-track the horns left/right to stop them walking all over the vocal?, and make the vocal a bit drier? change out the drum pattern in some sections, break it down a bit? the guitar solo from approx 4min is ace!

I like this article. It's convinced me more to go 96k.
