Re: EZ Drummer levels
Very helpful Mark - being specific to EZ Drummer. Putting compression on helped my goal of getting the peak and average levels under control - but the sound was really no different as I said. So I wondered if I was simply "checking a box" to doing things the way I think they "should" be done for no ...

Problem mixing down with DB-33 hammond emulator
Here's a real strange one. I'm using the DB-33 plugin for organ parts. I have several other tracks - a guitar that I've played and recorded. then a bunch of midi instruments (horns, drums. bass, piano). When I mix down what I have so far, there is a very unpleasant undertone - actually pretty loud. ...

Re: EZ Drummer levels
Oh sure - just when I pretty much understood this (enough to make sense in my mind) you throw "parallel compression" at me! :) We'll save that for another day. I put compression on the drums using the Acoustica plugin; then tried again with the classic one. Both times I used the "drums" preset for e...

Re: EZ Drummer levels
All great suggestions. Understand that the overall sound is OK (to me at least) and my question was a bit more academic than a real request for help. Again, it passes the "ears" test but the meters on the drums being higher than my rule of thumb makes it fail the "eye" test. That said, I do suspect ...

Re: EZ Drummer levels
Wow - GREAT information. Thank you both! Compression is still a mystery to me and I've concluded it's some sort of mental block with me. Which bothers me because I normally understand complex things (I'm a statistician / data analyst by education and profession). So I read things like "use compressi...

EZ Drummer levels
While I realize that hard and fast rules, or even rules of thumb, are not to be taken too seriously, I've had good results with one that I've used - I guess part of gain staging. I used to put a Blue Cat gain plugin on most of my tracks, but it's even easier with the pre-effects gaon knob on the mix...

Re: Occasionally issue with Piano Roll
I'm on V9.442 As I said, this is very sporadic and not very frequent. If I ever detect a pattern or series of steps that seem to cause it, I'll report it. I was just curious if anyone else experienced something similar. I'm not ruling on my refurbed machine, which seemed to have some trouble managin...

Occasionally issue with Piano Roll
Just curious if anyone encountered this - Very rarely, but enough to be annoying, the piano roll stops responding to mouse clicks. I always have it undocked on my second monitor. There are times when I try to scroll or click on the midi-editing or other things and it doesn't respond. The workaround ...

Re: Where would a memory upgrade help?
I need to update my signature too. It's an Intel Core i5-3470 at 3.2GHz Quad core according to Intels website Very old but MUCH faster than what I had before. The entire machine cost $150 I had to replace my file server (for video) which was a 15 year old eMachine that could not run Win10 and Win7 s...

Where would a memory upgrade help?
My "new" computer (actually a refurbed i5-gen 3) has 8 GB. Upgradable to 32 Where would I notice a difference? Thinking of adding 16 - the way it's configed that would give me 20 (it has four banks of 2 now - and from everything I read I can put in memory on any of those slots, don't have to worry a...

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9
Hmmm - it's never happened to me before, making me think the default has changed. I always saw all the clips as recorded the next segment - it never muted any of them. Anyway, now that know, problem solved. Thanks again! (PS - I like MX9 very much; I'm using the "light" theme; step editor is great; ...

Re: V9 question - gain knob
A couple questions, though now we're getting into something beyond the original topic Why would use both the 3 band and the parametric EQ? And if say one of your effects shapes the tone significantly, wouldn't you want to EQ after that effect as well? Is there a value in EQ before and after effects?...

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9
Thanks - I will try that later when I'm at my home computer.
Interesting - I've been using Mixcraft since version 6 or maybe before and this never happened. A new option or a new default?

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9
Sorry for the multiple posts. I rebooted and things are generally back to normal - but my original post still holds. When I have a clip on the track to the left of where I now want to record, with the track armed and when I hit the record button, all the clips are get muted automatically. This happe...

Re: Prior Clips mute when I hit record - V9
OK - maybe it's a memory issue? I had two instances of Mixcraft open and also some other applications. 8 GB memory. Because when I went to unmute all the clip,s the screen went black, then a display error message, then that instance of Mixcraft shut down. And my screen has a weird rectangle of ":stu...
