Re: Mixdown levels for mastering
Yeh. It’s just that right now I’m often uploading sort of test tracks for that project over at Seymour Duncan so .MP3 uploads are quicker is all. Because it’s such a long song a .WAV file is +170MB and our upload speeds are way slower than our download speeds so it takes time (and takes even more ti...

Re: Mixdown levels for mastering
Also, if you are encoding to mp3 the resultant mixdown file should not be above -1.5dB to allow room for the encoder to work cleanly. This is interesting. Is this based on personal preference and experience or is there a technical reason for this??? Not questioning you at all but having never seen ...

Seymour Duncan User Group Collaboration using Mixcraft Pro Studio
This may interest a few... Over at the Seymour Duncan Forums I'm busy putting together a whole bunch of tracks (Producing???) that make up a collaboration of different guitarists to cover the Hear 'n Aid Song "We're Stars" originally put together by Mr. Ronnie James Dio in 1985 (a fundrais...

Re: Reversible Thresholds in Dynamic Processors
Oh and by the way (with regard to the topic): I THINK I understand what you're asking Ian. Would something like the below not work (NUGEN's SigMod)??? I don't have it but as I understand it you should be able to split incoming audio into different tracks based on a certain frequency threshold. So y...

Re: Reversible Thresholds in Dynamic Processors
Hmmmnnn...
Was going to comment on FabFilter but Mr. Craig got in before me. They keep offering me a "special" (yeh right) upgrade price from ProQ-2 to ProQ-3 but I was just going to say: appears to me that FabFilter is still learning stuff that Melda has already forgotten about.

Re: Mixdown levels for mastering
I've a whole thread on this very same topic if some can remember. I use Lurssen, TRackS-5, or iZotope for mastering (basically do three different masters and decide which sounds the best). In all cases though: it would appear that they all "expect" a -6dB input in order to comfortably do t...

Re: First note goofups
Hmmmnnn... I wonder if this is not related somehow: Many times (and it seems to be getting worse of late) when I record an audio (guitar) track then when I mixdown there is a huge and loud pop in the rendered audio file. The pop is clearly visible in the rendered audio file as the very first thing i...

Re: Acoustica mixcraft problem
Is it just me or are there more and more posts where the OP has only one post and that first, and only, post just happens to be reporting a supposed shortcoming or bug in Mixcraft??? Methinks the competition may have begun to take note!!! LOL!!! If I’m wrong on this particular thread then I do of co...

Re: Vocal Recording Tricks
Not going to join in the fray here but thanks to somebody resurrecting this thread I happened to listen to your "Living Conditions" track Mr. Craig. Very very nice. Needs some serious electric guitar of course!!! LOL!!! I'm thinking a Pink Floyd type trip??? LOL!!! Don't worry. Not gonna ...

Re: Vocal Recording Tricks
That's often my approach. Sadly, my singing is not what it once was. I need to sing more and get my chops back. I recorded this at the weekend, it has vocals, not too many words but is over 10 minutes long (it's an early version) I recorded the vocals with a condenser microphone with phantom power ...

Re: Convert audio to midi
I'm afraid this is being oversimplified.
Will work fine (mostly) for a single instrument's audio track. No great feat there. Try it with a full mix and see what you get.

Re: String Instruments Hi Freq Artifact
Dude. If there is one thing I’m sure of in this world it is that I have the cleanest guitars on the planet!!! LOL!!! Certainly no grimy fretboards. Strings get wiped down mostly with GHS FastFret after every session and now and then with 90% alcohol. Fretboards wiped after every session too. Everyth...

Re: VST Info/Help
Arguably the finest, at least to me anyway, plugins on the planet. Not cheap (not the complete bundle anyway) but unlike a fair number of other plugins I have the misfortune of having purchased before discovering Melda: I have no regrets whatsoever!!! But yeh: the plugins in their free bundle don’t ...

Re: String Instruments Hi Freq Artifact
Apologies. I didn’t realise that you’d already uploaded a file. For some reason or the other my previous email notification for this thread took me directly to Mark’s last post. Well I don’t know if it helps you but I can hear it clearly in your file (but you’ve accentuated it with EQ of course). Wo...
