Sad songs, sad themes: By herself all alone

Post by NewbeeNo99 »

Here's the project me and a friend has been working on lately. The song theme is about bullying, and more specific: bullying through social medias. I got emotionally attached to a bullying case of a girl in the US. It was all over the media a some years ago. For me, this case had strong resemblances to the old tale about the little red riding hood, not the Grimms version where it all ends good, but Charles Perraults first version where the wolf actually wins in the end :(

Anyway from earlier I've been trying to put the voice a little bit more upfront. I still use the double vocal trick to make my own voice sound better (compared with the other vocal track we have). Earlier I had too much sibilance in the vocals. I do believe this is better now. I've used a wool sock on the mic and I'm not singing directly into the mic anymore. Instead I level the mic to a higher position.

We've used a lot of external stuff in this track. Guitar rig 5, free VST plug ins K424Aeropad, Native instruments FM8, Kontakt 5, but we still use a lot of the instruments in mixcraft 6. I almost find myself a bit guilty since it's not all Mixcraft

I'm very fond of critiqs. So please, if there is something that comes to the ear, I would very much hear it. That's how we improve :D
Btw: The mastering here is done by a professional and not me. I've decided to let go of the mastering. At least for a while

Well done, nicely mixed! Was there a big difference in the sound from your raw mix to the finished master product? :D

A really nice track, and well mixed/produced. A little Pink Floydish? Listened through a couple of other tracks you´ve made, and they are equally as good I think. Top score! Well done!

Thank you, Robert. I think I'll leave it be. At least for this time :)

There's a increase in the volume level, and also bass and kick tones have a lot more punch and stand out more. I've put up a separate track with the raw mix so you can hear it. For me it's worth the bucks. One day I feel victorious I will try to beat the masters work

Appreciate your comments, Markus. Lots of inspiration from the Floyds 8) They're one of my favourite bands.
