That horrible huh? lol
im assuming you mean i should have used a click-track. I have tried it, and unless i record in very small portions it doesnt help me. i dont know if i get to focused or what, but it doesnt work as with most people. On this one i had a drumloop, but ended up feeling like it sounded too generic, so figured id delete the loop and play drums myself (NOT a drummer..), in retrospect i should have kept the loop and played on top of it or something, but yeah...
In the end i ended up quite happy with the song so figured id share, maybe this is one of those that should have stayed in the archives, lol.
Appreciate the time you took to listen and comment though :D

Hi, Robert!

Have just listened to "Vintersang i blå dur", and I think you have improved in many ways! It´s well played, produced and mixed. Interesting with the vocals hard left! The drums are really good, what are those?

It´s a good arrangement and catchy song and I liked it! Have you tried to send it to norwegian radio (local radio)? I could see (hear) this song as a soundtrack to a film...

The only thing I noticed was that it seemed to be very low audio output! I had to turn my Scarlett all the way up! It didn´t effect the sound quality though (no hiss or noice added).

I´m afraid, even though I´m Swedish, I could not understand much of the lyrics, but I think it suits your songstyle to sing in Norwegian! I will send this to my Norwegian friend!

Thanks!

Best regards/

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment my scandinavian friend ;) Actually means alot getting the "stamp of approval" from someone like you :D
The vocals hard left is/was a mistake. On my first mixdown i accidently pulled it hard left instead of one of the background vocal tracks, and sorta liked it so kept it that way, lol. The drums are the "modern vintage" kit that comes with EZdrummer 2, i just turned the velocity down about 10% or so to have it less hard and to give it a more overall round sound. I feel like im constantly getting better at certain things, and very awesome to hear someone else hear that too, so its not just in my head, lol
I have sent stuff to radio in the past (been played on NRK P3 ( the program called "Urørt") 2-3 times and once on a show Harrald Are Lund once did. Ive also been played on a few podcasts. But i havnt sent anything to radio or anything else thats been made later then 2015, maybe i should do it again with my next project :D

As far as the volume..I had no idea, lol! Only thing i can think off is if i accidently didnt add volume when mastering the track. I tend to do the actual mastering without adding volume just so i can feel sure it sounds pretty good before boosting it..

As far as understanding eachother, lol. I dont blame you at all, when i first decided to try and work in my own language, i figured id go all in and sing/write as i speak. SO as much as its classic "bokmål" ( born and raised just outside of Oslo) i have alot of pronounciations and stuff from my father who grew up in Oppsal near Oslo. So i have been told numerous times that i have "Oppsal-slang" ,lol

Again..Much much appreciated my friend! And cool to know i made the right desicion to switch to Norwegian. Smaller crowd, but hey :D

Hi Robert,
I thought the vocals on the left must have been a mistake, it didn't work too well in my earbuds, but accounting for the tonal differences in language, it sounded good in terms of word timing (I can imagine words in English falling into the same spaces in the same way). I loved the guitar in the end section and the way the rest of the track died behind it. :D

Appreciate the listen!
To be honest, im very back and forth myself with the hard-left vocals. it sounds pretty good on my studio monitors and on my mp3 player, but horrible on the stereo in the livingroom, lol so prolly gonna change that panning at some point.
Im very glad i switched to Norwegian, definately more challenging (on top on general vocal challenges), but worth it so far. Glad it sounds "right" even if you dont understand what the hell im talkin about, lol
In retrospect heres my own thoughts on the song..

Good things first i guess.. Im really proud of the mix, prolly my top 5 mixes ive ever done, so thats awesome. Love the guitar tones and how they sit in the mix, feel like i found a good tone for the bass where its very present where it needs to be, and more like a "backbone" during the chorus-parts. Genuinly proud of the vocals (both main and backing), Not talking about where its panned now, but general preformance, as i have always hated my own voice and feel like i truly suck at singing, but this take and mix isnt so bad ;)
Funny about the last solo? I recorded 3 seperate solos. One that was mainly show-offy, one that was simple but melodic, and the last one, which was basically me just making noise with the very first electric guitar i ever baught with my own money. Its been through alot and doesnt really work for decent soloing imho, atleast not until its been repaired kinda thing, but i ended up with that take, as i sorta felt it was somewhat charming and unexpected, lol

Then theres things i hate..Well, hate might be a strong word, but yeah..I absolutely HATE the rap-break part thingy now. To put things a bit in perspective, when i wrote the original version of the song i was shooting some ideas back and forth with a rapper/producer friend who was working on a song with similar theme, so we came up with the idea to somewhat colaborate and for him to do a promo where he sings (which he never does) and i would release a promo where i rapped (which i never do), long story short, i got done waiting around for him, so i ended up rewriting the song, but at the time i thought that was a cool idea so i guess i wanted to honor it or something, but the execution is horrible, and doesnt fit the song at all.. SO if i end up putting the song on the EP im currently working on, that part goes, i have been flirting about the idea of maybe keeping the "idea", but doing something a bit more suttle, like a rnb-ish break, or a jazzy one where i just talk my rap-verse or something..but yeah..
Another thing is (granted i was aware of it) i have become more focused on the drums sometimes being a bit off beat since it was pointed out to me. SO i sorta hate the drums now aswell, or atleast certain parts i totally hear it myself, lol

But hey..we live we learn kinda thing :)

Anyways..Much appreciate the listen and feedback :) More fun sharing that way
