Really old guy needs some advice

Post by nitrobarry1 »

Hi all, Being a total newbie ( I think that`s what I am ) to all of this, I`m about to take the plunge into a home studio. My son uses Mixcraft 6 at school so that`s what I`ll get. However as I`m starting to collect gear, I need some advice on an audio interface I`m thinking of buying. I`ve been told that the Roland Quad Capture unit is a very good one. Opinions? Something better out there? Thanks for your help and patience to all :D

Hi and welcome into our insane world :D

First I'd suggest looking at what you are ultimately wanting to achieve in recording - number of inputs/outputs. If you're just recording yourself 2 inputs would be fine, but if you intend recording bands, you'll be wanting more.

Can't say I've had experience with the Roland Quad Capture but the brand speaks for itself. A few of our regulars (myself included) use Focusrite interfaces - a good start is this one

Here's the recommendation from Acoustica..

...and don't worry about being a 'Really old guy' - we have a very well established 'Old Farts Club'

Thanks for your input. I`ll be recording myself and my son as well. My only concern (in terms of an audio interface) would be expandability in future. I`ve always been told buy more than you need (within reason), or go with the "to much is probably just right" theory. Thanks again :D

Have a look at the Focusrite interface. I have one of these packages and they are great value for the money. The interface is the award winning 2i2.
