Upgrading Ram on Laptop

I'm considering upgrading my laptop ram from 8GB to 16GB. I know I need to turn the power off and disconnect the power cable before upgrading... But is it also necessary to disconnected the battery just to swap-out the ram?

If it's removable and easy to remove, I would. If not, no worries. Easy process, just insert the new ram in the slot/s.

You may save some grief by checking with the manufacturer. Sometimes you find that specific mother boards only support a given amount, and adding RAM either achieves nothing or causes problems.
And FWIW the larger handicap on some laptops is often the hard drive.

Remove the battery just to be on the safe side. Some laptops require quite a bit of disassymbly to change out the ram. Some require keyboard pad removal! :D

Hmm, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga and I haven't had any problems, however I did need to increase the buffers to play the MX8 demo song "I Can't Go On This Way" and that got me to thinking maybe upgrading the ram might help. I wasn't able to find any info on the Lenovo Support website... But I saw this video on YouTube how to upgrade my laptop ram...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkYQYxQ ... MKmfa&t=0s
And the ram upgrade seems easy enough.

And I found this company which guarantees compatibility (16GB for only $114.99)…
https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatib ... -l380-yoga

But if it's not going to help I don't want to do it, however if it will help, I want to do it. So what do you think, Yes/No? :?

PS: If you think the upgrade will help, and IF there are two ram memory slots (I haven't looked inside my laptop yet) can I use both the 8GB board that's in there now, plus a new 16GB board (or should I just swap-out the ram)?

If you need to ask this many questions you probably don’t want to mess around and ruin your laptop. If in raising the buffers on playback helped to get through the song then your OK! Don’t need more RAM per se! :D

I just got off the phone with a friend who answered all my questions, and said pretty much the same (I don't need it). Thank you.

It still seems like if it is a simple addition (after checking to make sure there is an open slot) it might be a good idea to do even if you can get around it for the time being by raising the buffers. Slow memory affects so many tasks that it's really well worth the small investment to speed up your rig. Although, holding out until you just replace your machine entirely is another option. I always tell myself that I'll look forward to getting a new laptop, but the amount of time to take to get it all set up keeps me from actually doing it much of the time, so that's one point in favor of a quick, simple, and cheap upgrade.
