I bought this very short and inexpensive book (Kindle version):
Music Habits: 101 Production Tips for Computer Musicians by Jason Timothy.

Very quick tips organized by topics like Eq, compression etc.

Such as "cut, don't boost" and where the mud it and high pass filters.

More on DIY Mastering.

New resource, looks like we've got some well produced tutorial videos on EQ, Compression and digital audio terms and such, as well as an interactive feature for exploring and ear training practice.

I'd just like to say a big thank you for these links. I checked out e.g. Recording Revolution and was really impressed by how simple Graham makes it and will be trying to read as much else as possible. The Puremix video was also excellent.

For a relative beginner like me*, these forums and the Mixcraft University stuff are a really, really great resource. I feel I have come further in a few days of lurking around here (and buying Mixcraft Pro while on offer) than I have previously in months/years. Time to get some songs done decently, for a change!

(* Relative in the sense that I've downloaded free versions of most DAWs, got confused, added millions of plugins, got nowhere very fast indeed and then gave up for a couple of years.)
