Microphone Recommendations

I'm after some microphone suggestions to expand my bedroom 'studio' set up.
I'm attempting to write EDM/Uplifting Trance music so won't be using an interface to record guitars, bass, drums etc but would like to add some vocals into some tunes.
I'm using a desktop with a m-audio 24/96 sound card fitted so was looking at a USB mic with a headphone output for zero latency monitoring.
I'm on a tightish budget (as far as I tell my Mrs) but she isn't daft and would probably check the retail price of anything that miraculously turns up out of the blue.
Has anybody got any recommendations or am I basically tied to the Rode NT USB or the AT2020+.

Cheers guys

Eddie.

Do you have any other equipment besides your soundcard, like a mixer with preamps and phantom power?

First off I'm far from being a mic expert and I do not do vocals (you're welcome). I normally only mic guitar cabs on occasions and maybe an acoustic guitar. But the thing with USB mics from what little research I have done is you are stuck with it, it has it's own analog to digital converter, etc. You can not upgrade unless you buy a better USB mic.
For about the same price as the better USB mics you could get a USB audio interface like a Focusrite or Presonus AudioBox and a mic like the old standard Shure SM58. And later on down the road you can update the mic, or get a better mic preamp or interface. There is more interchangeable parts.

Do not get me wrong, I'm not trying to talk you out of buying one. I just considered it at one time and thought about upgrades on my little home studio down the road.

But who knows, maybe USB mics are the future with the way technology is advancing.Good luck.

BTW. If your MRS. says anything just tell her you was going to buy one of these,

So you saved her $3300.

Cheers for the reply, no I haven`t got any form of mixer, so no pre amp or phantom power.....to be honest I can`t see myself expanding into miking up cabs or recording instruments direct, just the odd vocal on certain tunes that`s why i`m not interested in the interface route. I`m leaning towards the Rode NT usb for it`s plug and play use with zero latency.
I`ve got a very basic bedroom set up consisting of a Desk top with sound card powering my monitors, a usb keyboard and shit loads of samples .
I respect the true musicians out there and admire you all but I love my EDM and anything that makes it easier for me to get my ideas down asap is my best option.......so can anyone recommend the Rode NT usb.

The AT has a nice flat frequency response curve in the vocal range. Know that there are some problems with USB mics and Windows 10. You'll have to do the research on that if you want to.

This situation looks like the wife should at the least get an ounce of Armani perfume.
