Right now, being a newbie I am playing more with presets. That being said, I had Density MK# compressor and was finally getting familiar with it's "Gluing" preset and tweaking it. But I highly suspect it's the very plugin wreaking havoc on mixcraft to the point it is unusable.

Any suggestions???

Not sure what version you are running, but the Broadcast Multiband and Izotope Mastering Essentials that come with Mixcraft 8 ProStudio are both good for gluing the mix together, although the latter also has stereo spreading, reverb and other things built in.

Try Tokyo Dawn’s free Kotelnikov compressor, it is arguably the most popular freebie:

As long as it’s transparent and has all the basic controls, I think most compressor plugins work okay.

Any ideas on general settings for glueing? Like a general starting point to start tweaking from? I got Mixcraft Pro 8.1.

Absolutely impossible to say. My advice would be to get your mix down to -6 dB or so on the master channel before you even touch the master fader and run through the Izotope Mastering Essentials presets to see what you like, and go from there.

Thanks. So far I've learned that much about mixing, getting all the instruments at appropriate levels to one another without any effects and making sure the master is at -6db for headroom.

Then start the compression on the master and an EQ as well for very light EQ enhancements.

So far I've had little luck with that. Your comment isn't very helpful.

All the stuff I have found thus far is vague. I figured if I asked directly I may come across a more direct answer.

Google has helped with most stuff though.

Not free but I would highly recommend FabFilter ProC2. ProQ2 is also invaluable. They've both taught me a ton about eq and compression.

MCompressor from MeldaProductions. It is free (it has a nag type line on the screen but it is free and works without limitations). Also the tutorial video on the Melda website is very good.

Density MkII is a great compressor. I've used it successfully with FL Studio 20. Though I'm just using the Mixcraft demo (seeing if I want to switch) I will look tonight to see if Density works. I do know that it's a 32bit plugin. While 64bit FL Studio can run 32bit plugins in a "bridged" mode, I'm not sure if Mixcraft does...

If I had to pick a single plugin in that list above, I'd go with the Omni channel. It's got three different types of compression along with a ton of other features. It's basically a really flexible console in a box.
