Possible to get MIDI instrument sounds that actually sound like the instrument?

Post by subversive »

Hey all, I've got Mixcraft 7, had it for awhile, never done a lot. I've recorded a few acoustic things and always found it pretty easy to use. I just got myself a Novation Launchkey 49 and started playing with virtual instruments. I'm noticing that many instruments don't really sound at all like the label. Others sound a lot closer to what they say they are. For example, Piano, Acoustic Bass, and Percussion kits seem to sound pretty good. Harmonica and Banjo are two examples of ones i have tried that sound basically nothing like what an acoustic version of the instrument sounds like. I'm just wondering if this is normal? Is it possible to find MIDI sounds which actually come close to the real instrument?

Hi,

You can get third-party plugins that offer sampled sounds. Programs like Kontakt work with libraries of sampled sounds.

Mixcraft's own Omni Sampler program can load samples (there are samples included in MIxcraft's library) to provide actual audio recordings of drums.

Some real-life instruments are easier to emulate than others.

Thanks, appreciate the response. Yes, I started poking around the internet, found a slightly better banjo. Still not quite there, but better. As you say, it's definitely easier to emulate some than others. Anyway, thanks! Onwards and upwards. :)

The way you use/play a surface controller can also make a really big difference too.
