Rich,

This is a difficult question to answer since musical tastes differ so much. I'd say the main strengths of Captain chords is that it allows a consistent approach to creating music particularly suited to EDM. It does work well in Mixcraft provided you use the generated Midi it produces rather than use its sequencer - a big downside for some people is that you need an internet connection up and running to generate the chords before you save to Midi.

If I had to pick one all round vst it would be Scaler 2 - I suggest you try that out first.

Thanks for your reply Ravey. I shall take a look at Scaler 2. I like what I see with Captain Chords but was a bit concerned when reading posts on hear about problems when using with Mixcraft.

Captain Chords has been updated a couple of times and gets better with Mixcraft each time.
Scaler 2 is easier to use within Mixcraft- Scaler 2 is quite new and they have added some extra functionality which makes composition a lot easier than the previous version - it allows you to be more creative with harmony whereas Captain does a great job of allowing you to create melodies which sit nicely with whatever chord progression you have created.

With Scaler, I use https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/6072-Phrasebox

Phrasebox is nice as you can create melodies from chords but I have not been able to get Midi out from it though it's supposed to work.
For arpeggiators, try Bluearp (http://graywolf2004.net/wp/)

I've just discovered that Scaler 2 will only work with 64bit set ups I'm unfortunately running 32 bit :(

Rich,

That's a shame - what you could do is look at Tonespace http://www.mucoder.net/en/tonespace/
(32/64 bit and is free - it's basic but you can get chords in and experiment a bit.

Hello,

Alternatively, you can use Orb Producer Suite. I just posted a video on YouTube:
