Pianissimo Drastically Needs Updating

Nice sounding, low memory requirements, and attractive interface. Great stand-alone application. Unfortunately, it doesn't play nicely in a DAW while using many of the other (industry-leading) VSTIs. Most notably, ToonTrack's EZ Drummer and Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4.x, 5.x or Kontakt 4.x, 5.x., or IK Multimedia's Amplitude 3.x.

Please fix it. If you still want to sell it, fix it. This is silly - having to load it into a project first and the freezing/crashing if loaded in a project using Amplitude, Native Instruments, or ToonTrack products (causing loss of data for me on a few occasions). I really think it needs to be addressed and corrected. Pianissimo is a lovely little instrument and I sure would like to be able to use it in my recording projects, but because it poses too many problems, I never use it.

The plugin is nice sounding, but it is (4) year old technology and still being sold for almost $70. For only $79, a person can buy Native Instrument's "New york Concert Grand"; which is a Steinway Model D sample library. Sampletekk's Black Grand (Model D, Kontakt sample library) is available for only $50 and is often on sale for %25 less. Both of these aforementioned sample libraries offer better detail, more velocity layers, better quality sound, and are much more diverse. . . . . . and . . . . they work nicely with others!

I've kept these concerns to myself for a long time now, but it is disappointing that I paid for a piano VSTi that I can't actually use, unless I just want to stick with entry-level or "free" plugins/sounds that are bundled with Mixcraft. This needs to be fixed.

If Acoustica aren't going to do anything about it, at least let people know about the incompatibilities straight up front, on the product's web page. I, for one, would not have purchased it 6 months ago had I known that it wouldn't work with my other VST instruments.

I honestly mean no offense nor am I out to bash Acoustica. There are lots of reasons why I support Acoustica, but there is no excuse for failing to maintain your piano plugin, or at the very least, letting folks know straight up that there are some programmatic "Issues" with it. I believe in supporting smaller (non monopolistic) vendors, but I also expect my hard-earned money to be well-spent on products that I can use regularly without unnecessary compatibility restrictions.

I know that Acoustica's development team are diligently working on the Mixcraft 6 project. I just bought the upgrade license. I can't use it right now, because it stresses my i3 system too much. However, I know that I'll be able to use it someday, when I buy a new computer in a year or two. At any rate, I encourage you to also put some time and attention into your old Pianissimo plugin too. It sucks that I bought it and can't use it. And no, I don't want my money back, I want it to work. ;)

Hi,

As you probably already know, Pianissimo requires 250 megabytes of contiguous RAM, so if you've got a bunch of other plugins loading first you can run into the problem you're describing. Thanks for your detailed feedback! I've passed your message along to the software developer.

Yeah, I agree and face the same problems (Sonar Cakewalk) but I think I have to upgrade my computer with memory etc. Anyway, what I sometimes do is save my partially finished project as a MP3, WMA or WAV with the VSTi's I'm done with. Start a new project and load that MP3/WAV/WMA in one stereo track and start adding the rest. Annoying but I have a way to finish my projects.
