Bizarre unusable behaviour of Soundtoys Primal Tap in both MX8 & MX9

Post by Ian Craig »

Demonstration of erratic behaviour that occurs whenever live keyboard MIDI data is fed into the Soundtoys Primal Tap Plugin. Midi notes trigger the Freeze effect and in different pitch ranges take over control of the Adjust & Multiply controls according to the input pitch. This is true in both Mixcraft 8 and 9 up to build 449. The plugin is not supposed to do this and indeed it does it erratically (de-activating when the effect is dragged between different tracks and re-activating when any of it's controls get moved again afterwards). It makes the plugin more or less useless for assessing what notes to input through it as you can't hear how it is going to sound until after the notes have finished recording.

Hi,

Does the same thing happen with the Musical Typing keyboard?

Hi,

My trial period is over for Soundtoys, unfortunately.

Is the Soundtoys Contact Us link broken? (I mean the support form that is linked from that page). I tried it in both Chrome and Microsoft Internet Edge Explorer.

Hi,

That's what I'm getting. I'll see if Eric has that plugin.

I had a long post about this, but long story short this also happens in Ableton Live 10.1, so it's a problem on Soundtoys' end, not Acoustica's.

On an unrelated note, it seems that VST effects loaded into the Instrument effect list on an instrument track does not receive any MIDI, which is why PrimalTap behaves itself when added there, at least in build 448 (I've yet to upgrade whoops).

I went ahead and contacted Soundtoys support (the link can be found by jumping through too many hoops - their website is pretty broken it seems) and gave them a link to this thread so that they can look at Ian's video.

Good one, thanks.
I'll try it on an instrument FX track
