Instrument voice changes after one play of loop

Hello, I'm upgrading to MC6 but wanted first to solve a problem I hav in MC4.

I load a midi file to an instrument track, and the file somehow has a piano voice (or the instructions to play as apiano voice) attached to it already.

I change the voice in MC4 to bass or something else.

I set the track on loop.

When played, the track plays the bass I chose, but on the second and subsequent playbacks reverts to the piano voice that came with the file.

Any advice on stopping this inability to change the voice on the loaded midi file? Thanks much!!
