MC3 Rocks

Post by Acoustica Eric »

I have been testing Mixcraft 3 for the past week or so, and had decided that this is a good time to record my band live for a demo cd to promote the band.
Multitracked through an M-Audio 1010LT into the pc (Mixcraft), we did 7 songs one night.
Here is the first I have finished working on.
This is White Zombie's "Thunderkiss 65" done by Bottom Feeders www.bottomfeeders.servebeer.com
Mixcraft accepted all tracks at once and performed perfectly!
Kudos to Dan and the rest who worked on programming it!
After mixing, cutting, fading, effecting, mastering, this is what I have come up with.
This is the same drum kit I use in Beatcraft, but this time it is our drummer playing.

Mixcraft 3 is worlds above older versions in many ways, and is a must for all enthusiasts here :-)

Nicely done Eric. How many tracks were recorded at once? All mic'd or any line-ins?

Wow, that sounds good Eric.

To everybody out there listening to this: remember this is a beta version! Keep looking for those bugs while you're having fun making music. ;-)

Thanks guys :-)
This was 8 channels into Mixcraft.

We actually had at least 12 mics going, but ran them all into my 24 channel mixer first, then assigned channels to outputs from the board to the pc like this:
1 - Kick drum
2 - Snare
3 - 3 toms
4 - 3 toms
5 - Kit Overhead
6 - Kit Overhead
7 - Bass
8 - Guitar

Added vocals after the live recording.
Did a lot of cutting out mistakes and ghost hits and stuff, but we think it sounds pretty good.
I am working on mastering the rest of them now.

Not my particular cup o tea/style at all but I can tell that the tracks are clear and tight.

Nice job Eric!

Yeah, it's not my favorite either. But in order to get gigs we have to play stuff that people know.
My originals seem to scare the kids :-)

what drum kit do you use in beatcraft? im curently using the rock and blues kit for my songs..but it doesnt sound like a real drumset in the mix of our songs..at the moment i only have an interface that can record 2 tracks at a time and its a pain to redo the drums 4 or 5 times to get all the drums..any ideas?

The rock and blues kit can sound like a real kit if you eq, compress, reverb, etc. correctly.

I usually use my 18 piece tama kit that I recorded right from my drummers kit.

You can download that for free here http://www.demondigital.com/backstage/tutorials.php
It's in the left column near the bottom.

Same kit you here in the song posted above.
