Roland A33 keyboard - doing odd things
Hello
I am a new Mixcraft6 user (ex Cubase user!) and I am trying to use Mixcraft6 with my Roland A33 midi controller keyboard. However when I try to use either the volume slider or the modulation wheel Mixcraft goes weird, as though I have hit all the keys at once. I have to mute the track and it then 'resets' but these features won't work.
They used to work fine (years ago) when I used the keyboard with Cubase, so I guess it must be some sort of setting somewhere.
Can anyone help me - point me in the right direction or some suggestions of what to try/change?
Thanks!

Re: Roland A33 keyboard - doing odd things
Thanks for the reply and I now understand the Control Surfaces feature but the Keyboard is still doing odd things. Is it because it is not a USB keyboard?

Hi,
How do you have the Roland A33 connected to your computer? What virtual instrument are you using? Does this happen with any virtual instrument?
If you don't already have version 6.1 build 213, install the latest version of Mixcraft.

Hello Greg
Sorry for the delay in replying! Thanks for your patience.
I hook up my A33 to my Lenovo ideapad i7 laptop via USB 3.0 (and/or the usb 2.0 port)
I have just added the 213 patch (I was on 210)
It happens on any of the virtual instruments in Mixcraft
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi,
The Roland A33 comes with a USB connection? Or are you using a third-party MIDI-to-USB cable?

yep, sorry Greg.
I am using a usb to midi cable. Is that the problem do you think?
If so, how else can I connect my laptop to the keyboard?
Thanks

Re: Roland A33 keyboard - doing odd things
Hello Greg
I have tried another cable but the same issue I'm afraid.
Just worth noting that I have a Roland jv1010 module hooked up via a standard midi cable to the A33 and the controls all work fine with the module (volume up and down etc), unfortunately it doesn't have a usb port so I can't test the cable(s) I have.
I did buy both cables off the internet (forget which shop) and they were inexpensive... should I try a better cable do U think?
Thanks
Chris

Re: Roland A33 keyboard - doing odd things
Hi,
Mixcraft is looking for a specific MIDI controller command (CC #1) for the mod wheel. If other MIDI commands or notes are being sent instead, Mixcraft will react to those instead of CC #1.
It could be a bad MIDI-to-USB cable, but it seems odd that you'd have two bad ones. Are they the same brand?

Hi,
I don't have any particular recommendations for MIDI-to-USB cables. Do you have a different computer that you can try the current cable and keyboard with?

Hi Chris,
Does your midi-to-usb interface show up in Device Manager? These cables are known for some driver issues (mostly on win7 - don't know if you use that?) and most of them seem to have this in common: an errorcode 10 showing up in Device Manager.
See for instance:
answers.microsoft.com
There are many similar threads, symptoms differ, although i must say i have not come across a description that clearly resembles your story.
Still, a possible solution/something for you to rule out, though i haven't looked at it in detail:
http://www.blindskunk.com/windows7_view ... ivers.html
However, it also sounds like midi/audio is looping. I have a big post prepared in case the above is of no use. Be warned: i'm gonna ask a lot of questions with no (quick) solutions
