Recommended PC mic?

Post by unclefreddy »

Hi everyone!

I LOVE Mixcraft. What a great product. OK, to my point...

I'm looking for a microphone suitable for recording both voice & acoustic instruments that doesn't cost the moon and plugs into my mic input on my desktop PC. The one I have (from Best Buy) isn't bad, but I'm sure there is something good out there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks ;)

This is a Shure SM58, it is widely used by musicians all over the world for live performance and also recording.

I use many of these and also the Beta58 and SM57 for live, and studio purposes.

You will need a mic cable (XLR to XLR) and and XLR to 1/8 adapter.

I couldn't find an XLR to 1/8 adapter so I go from XLR to 1/4 to 1/8.

Any Radio Shack will have the adapters.

Eric and I have agreed to disagree on this from earlier discussions. The Nady Starpower mics (also available at Musicians Friend) offer a huge bang for the buck. Even the Starpower 1 is a great improvement over a regular PC microphone as it has a metal body and does a pretty fair job. It all depends on your expectations. In no way are these Nady mics equal to the SM58, but not everyone needs a SM58 for what they are doing.

(Fair way to put it Eric?)

You will still need the cord and adapter that Eric describes.
