Amp simulators

Post by clavguy »

Hi gang,

I realize we have Shred amp simulator. Are there any other ones out there that are available that won't bust my budget?

Thanks
Pierre

I use the Line 6 Pod Farm. It has additional packages of amp models and effects you can add on as you want. It's reasonably priced and produces some very good tones, quite good emulation. :D

There are many VST out there, and many free ones, too with high quality.

Among the pay software, one of the most interesting is S-Gear of ScuffhamAmps.
http://www.scuffhamamps.com/

Free (and great) VST can be found here:
Ignite Amps http://www.igniteamps.com/en/audio-plug-ins
Kuassa http://www.kuassa.com/products/amplifikation-lite/
TSE Audio http://www.tseaudio.com/software.html
LePou http://lepouplugins.blogspot.it/
Nick Crow Lab https://sites.google.com/site/nickcrowlab/
Plektron http://www.plektronfx.com/guitaramp2fe.php

With some VST preamps (above), you could get a better tone using also a VST amp sim (like the one from Ignite amps), and then you will need also some IR (wave files to simulate the speaker and the mic) and an IR player (like the VST free ones from LePou or Ignite Amps).
Some nice free IR files can be found here:
God's cab http://signalsaudio.com/site/gods-cab/
But the best IR files require a little money such as:
Ownhammer http://bit.ly/1gIgDYn
RedWirez http://redwirez.com/
(Sometimes they even have some free stuff, too).

yeah...but you got to pay for it. Don't get me wrong, the good things are worth paying for. But free is for me.

I would strongly recommend this free SimulAnalog Guitar suite. The Marshall JCM900 simulator is as good as any I've tried, if not better, even though it has no fancy interface, and the Boss pedal simulators are pretty nice too.

So i tried installing some of the free versions of the VST's simply for an expansion of the sounds that i have to work with, *aspiring to be a self sufficient musician* and i downloaded them from the sight themselves but mixcraft said that either the *file is corrupted or in a incompatible format*, Would Anybody here know how i may be able to circumnavigate this to a point where i can download them and be able to format them to work? :(

If you want *good*, then you're hard-pressed to do any better than OverLoud's "TH2" or Scuffham's "S-Gear". If you want cool, vintage "Fenderish" clean/blues/crunch, definitely check out Kuassa's "Vermillion". It looks great, sounds amazing, and only costs about $40!
Here's my review of it:
http://reviewrevival.weebly.com/reviewe ... d-medalist

I've gotten GREAT tones out of the *FREE* LePou/Poulin in conjunction with "RedWirez" impulse responses loaded into Poulin's "LeCab2".

All of these that I've mentioned are versatile and provide excellent, realistic amp tones & response. Shred . . . Meh, it was decent enough for its day. At first listen, you think it's pretty good, but compared to these others it pales. It suffers pretty bad from "fizziness" on higher gan/overdrive settings.
Thanks & God Bless,
Bro. Charles

Hi TheeBrOken and welcome to the forum.

When you download the files from the various sites you usually have to un-compress them and place the files in to your VST folder. This is not a hard and fast rule as some files have their own install routines.

As an example take the VST mentioned in an earlier post that is located at http://www.simulanalog.org/guitarsuite.htm

Go to that page and click on
Download VST PC version (341Kb)

This will download a file called
GSuite.zip

This file needs to be decompressed using something like Winzip or Windows own decompression routines and in the file you will see a number of files ending in .dll

You need to place these files in your VST folder - Check in your Mixcraft preferences (under the file menu) where this is on your system.

Once you have the files from the above link in the correct folder they will show up as options under your fx menu for a track (click on fx just next to the track name).

A common mistake is to assume that these files will appear under the instruments menu - the files in this thread are effects (fx) not instruments.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

FWIW, Amplitube is having a 2 for 1 sale through May 17th, $99 for 2.

I got the Fender and the Hendrix. Had a chance to a/b with PodFarm, ReValver and Waves GT and it's not even close, Amplitube beats them all by far. Plus, if enough people sign up they'll give away another package.

Fredfish, Thank you. That is actually very informative and quite helpful. I cannot thank you enough sir. However A key component of my Mixcraft crashed and became corrupted and thus i must uninstall it until i can correct the specific issue *I do know what it is* But In all seriousness that helps me out so much. I am relatively new when it comes to playing guitar *Which is what i was trying to download those FX for. I am self teaching myself how to play* I am a Bass guitarist above all else, and have been using mixcraft to better adapt and develop my musical skills and talents as well as making my own music. You know what they say Nobody knows what you like better than you do, so this has been a crucial part of my life for quite a few months now. Again thank you and i will definitely keep that in mind when i go forward to do this again after i correct the issues.

Thank you, with much appreciation,

Jacob

I use nothing else now - they're so realistic and hassle free :D

Use a combination of Roland MicroCube (jacked to the AI) or Amplitude 3 - only thing 'live' in my studio is now vocals.
