VST problems. Can't find any free Trap Drums that work.
I've watched the acoustica222 vid about this and have only gotten one 3rd party VST (Gladiator) to work with Mixcraft. As we all know, Mixcraft doesn't come with many good drums out of the box. I've heard the Kontakt library is compatible with Mixcraft, but I'm on a tight budget. Does anyone have or know of any good Trap Kits that work with this DAW? I'm trying to make Mixcraft my main sequencer for my home setup, but finding a good Trap Kit is proving more & more difficult. Thanx in advance!!!

Hi!
Not sure what your budget is, but a few of the regulars including myself are using EZDrummer without problems.
Any 32bit VST should work provided it is installed correctly and the .dll file is seen by Mixcraft.

EZdrummer is cool. Theres not a whole lot of drum vst (if any for that matter) that do hip hop/rap drums. Since you want trap drums your best bet would be to get yourself a vst software sampler like, http://www.tx16wx.com/ or http://www.vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php or http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sa ... l-versions. All of em FREE and all of em able to load wav files Then you can just google FREE TRAP DRUMS, or TRAP DRUM KITS. I make beats and i use the Tx16w. Its awesome. Grab a bunch of wavs, load em up and it'll lay em across your keyboard keys. It also auto chops samples.

Thanks for clearing that up. Actually I did not know that......As we all know, Mixcraft doesn't come with many good drums out of the box.

Re: VST problems. Can't find any free Trap Drums that work.
Thank you all for the help. I appreciate all of the responses (even the sarcasm LoL!). I'll give every tip a try. Mbliss, I'm looking for some "Lex Luger/ 808 Mafia" type sounds. They have some of the best snares imo. Also they have that "Chief Keef/ Young Chop" snare that I can't seem to find. I tried downloading the kits from youtube vids, but I think they're intended for FL Studio use. I originally had a pirated version of FL studio until my sister dropped my laptop (long story...smh). Since I had the retail version of Mixcraft, originally just for recording songs, I decided to try to learn the sequencer. I currently own an ASR-X, Korg Triton Extreme & a JV sound module. I have plenty of sounds to use. I just need these few more (for now...LoL!). If anyone has any Lex Luger/ Young Chop drum sounds or can point me in the direction of some, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Noel Felix Tamayo thank you for attempting to enlighten me. But as far as creativity goes, I'm not trying to copycat his tempos, chords or drum patterns. I do however, like the signature snares both he and Chop use (hate the rappers that get those beats though. LoL!). I have a nice library of sounds now, I just want to add those to it. Thanx for the 2nd link as well. I glad to know I was wrong about the stock Mixcraft sounds also. There are alot more than I thought! Help like this is what I hoped to find on this forum.

Cant recommend Geist highly enough, been using it exclusively with mixcraft since mixcraft 5 and at that price it's a steal!

When it comes to drums (especially for electronic music), I've heard many times that you're better off getting mediocre samples and then combining and/or fine-tuning them, or even make your own percussion sounds using, well, whatever.
I've heard instances where producers will actually make one snare sound out of three or four snares layered together and EQ'd so that the best qualities of each snare are present in the final result. So, if you're up to the challenge, make your own trap drums, mix each one down to a WAV, then pop them into free drum sample players. There's many out there, and I personally use Virtuadrum by Angular Momentum.
Good luck!

Re: VST problems. Can't find any free Trap Drums that work.
Just made a few projects with the Studio Drums.
Tonally they are excellent, unfortunately I am no drummer, so I don´t know the thricks of the trade. I looked for drum patterns and tried to play them with the keyboard, which was cumbersome and limited in result.
I partially used midi patterns, however to avoid machine-gun sound I had to heavily edit velocity and/or modulation wheel. The result was fair enough, but still somewhat fake. Also cumbersome and time consuming.
Although an interesting and educative issue, it steals a lot of time that could be used more productive in some other field.
Do not get me wrong, the drumkit itself sounds great. Look at the video that is there in the repository, but I suspect the guy knows what he does with a drumkit
I am going to see what toontrack are up to price-wise when they release their new version soon and go and grab one.

C# or Bb!
Re: VST problems. Can't find any free Trap Drums that work.
I think my only complaint with the studio drums is that there are no round robins on the samples (same goes for all of the Acoustica instruments). Agreed, their tonality is excellent. Just wished there was more to them.
And yes, realistic drum programming is really difficult, especially when imitating styles that are very active and have a large dynamic range.

Well this has turned into an interesting thread, with many useful tips and comments IMO!
Slim: I was going to reply with some comments, but after reading the blog post in Noel's first link, I think what I wanted to say was summed up fairly well! I only disagreed with one point-
"True, there is a lot of shitty sound design and sample sites out there, but there are equally as many good ones." I have never found the balance of good to begin to approach the volume of bad personally, for my tastes and interests.
While I am not even remotely familiar with the producers mentioned, or their "signature sounds", (No, I didn't search for examples to listen to either..... )
I am familiar with what an 808 is (was) and in my own personal searches have learned a thing or two along the way.
My own interest was in getting AWAY from the drum sounds that sounded like that, and to find ways to produce realistic sounding acoustic drum tracks- but to each his own/different strokes.
While learning to create your own sound and all is an appreciable goal, there are perhaps a million examples to borrow from too if that's what you want.
Anyway, heres a couple of links for you to explore, see if its anything you are interested in.
TS 808 Emulator: http://tactilesounds.blogspot.com/p/tac ... izers.html
Mafia 808 Samples: http://www.mediafire.com/download/epoax ... +Drums.rar
Demo packs of various samples: http://www.platinumaudiolab.com/index.p ... free_stuff
There's also many more sources, Loopmasters.com is probably the biggest, and they offer hundreds of samples from producer packs in multiple styles, most leaning toward the house/edm/hip hop etc. genres. Surely you could find some hits/samples that are similar to what you seek.
Perennial Jive: Geist looks interesting, and though I had seen it before, I was unaware they had lowered the price so much. Makes it more attractive! I would like to suggest you could maybe show us some tips on how it works, how you use it, etc?
Helmut:I too have the same trouble with drum programming. Humanizing can help with the machine like quality, but the not being a drummer part is harder.
While I am not knocking EZDrummer in any way, I have it and like it. But here's another tip for you to consider. You can get inexpensive MIDI sequences that are created by live players that can be used to build a pretty good library of drum patterns. One source I know of is the Loop Loft. They have a large collection of high quality drum MIDI libraries.
The New version of EZD looks very attractive, but the pricing is a bit high IMO. The retail upgrade for current owners is listed at $99. I think new owners prices are going to be well beyond $150. Given the added expense for enough expansion packs to build a good library its going to push you into the $300+ range easily. I got a pre-release offer to upgrade for $89. I think I am going to wait, don't need it that bad right now.
