Make and trigger my own samples
I want to record custom sounds for playback when triggered from a keyboard or midi controller. Only one problem. . . . I know NOTHING about samplers or midi mapping, etc. I can record the sounds into Mixcraft, but have no clue where to go from there. Anybody have any suggestions?
Re: Make and trigger my own samples
Have a look at Shortcircuit http://vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php
It is no longer supported by the people that made it but it is now free - I have used it way back and I seam to remember it wasn't too difficult.
I did try some others and I will search through my old VST folders to see if I can find them.
Good luck

I have certainly used Highlife before (but I remember it being free ?)

And how did I forget Alchamy Player - A bit of a tought learning curve but VERY capable.

With a couple of these you can set different samples at different keyboard locations.
Alternatively you can have multiple instances of the same VST loaded with different samples and then use the keyboard split function in Mixcraft to place the samples at different places on your keyboard.
Just curious. Are you looking to sample a sound and then play it back at different frequencies or to sample a variety of different sounds and then play them back at their original pitch?
Cheers

Re: Make and trigger my own samples
I'm just looking to record chords or brief snippets from the piano or guitar and save as samples to be triggered from a keyboard or other midi controller. . . . no transposition, velocity switching, mangling or other fancy stuff. I DID find out about Shortcircuit and downloaded it to my VST folder so now all I have to do is learn how to use it!?!?! I don't see any manual for it on the site though. As best I can figure now is that WAV files will work just fine (no special rendering, etc) and save each sample snippet to an unique file name and in a folder that I can "point" Shortcircuit to. The rest I still have to figure out. I hope there is some tutorial that will show me how to link the sample software to the desired sample files and then to the desired midi controller & specific trigger note/pad. Still looking for pointers if anybody's got any.
Thanks for the suggestions.
