a sad loss

Post by clavguy »

This is old new by now, but I have not seen a post here about it so I am posting.

Camel Audio, makers of Alchemy, are going out of business.

He's not kidding. And don't call him Shirley.

Mixcraft 8 Pro (32bit) runs fine on a Toshiba Satellite C55-B laptop with a wimpy Celeron N2830 (dual core). Now using 64bit on a "less wimpy" Dell 660S/Dual Core Pentium/8GB RAM.

Sad indeed. I never used their synths, but use Camelphat and Camelspace and find them to be the most versatile plug-ins I have. I sometimes demo plug-ins and think their pretty good, then I always think, "but heck, I can do that already in Camelspace/Camelphat" So they have saved me a lot of money over the years.

I heard about this a couple of months ago - I use the Alchemy player as my soundbank player (although Plogue sforzando is pretty good). I also have their iPad synth which is great.

The Alchemy player is still available as one of the programs available each month with Computer Music magazine which is £2-50 as a digital download, well worth it.

Just as an addition for those people that have purchased stuff from Camel they can re-download their files through to July - after that they will be closing down their servers. The recommendation is to download all of your stuff now and archive locally.

I had also heard that Apple have bought them out.

Who can not love a synth that has as one of its presets something called "A forest Gnome Dancing" !

But yes - a very sad loss.

Cheers

I just discovered this synth (Alchemy) in resurrecting this thread. It seems as it was/is a fantastic synth and unfortunately was bought out by Apple. What I want to ask the MC community is if anyone knows where I may download sound banks and presets for Alchemy Synth? As popular as it was, I imagine there's downloadable content out there somewhere.
That is all. 8)

My guess is Apple want Camelphat and Camelspace for Logic Pro. Probably Alchemy too.

That means it'll go bye bye on the PC. Bummer.
