2 or more virtual instruments?

Post by geo524 »

Hi Folks,

Can 2 or more virtual instruments be monitored at the same time? I know I can stack 2 VSTi's within the same instrument track but that does not work for certain applications. I need to be able to monitor 2 (or more) VSTi's at the same time.

Thanks

I just had 5 vsti's working together but they have to be placed on individual tracks then you can open all 5 gui's and monitor each one.
Impulse track 1
sampletank 3 track 2
sampletank 2.5 track 3
Messia track 4
Vb3 organ track 5 :D

Thanks Mick, but when you say "have all gui's open" do you mean click on the piano icon for each VSTi?

Follow the arrows > red. The icon opens the open instrument list.
blue > click vsti instruments and make selection.
green > call the gui from the edit tab.
Repeat for each vsti on a new track, I tried it with musical typing so I expect they all ran from midi channel 1.

Thanks again. Accessing and stacking VST's isn't where I'm confused though. Here's the issue I'm having unless I'm totally missing something which may very well be the case. :D With the above illustration the output of each synth are all on the same instrument track. I know their volume levels can be controlled individually via automation but this is a rather cumbersome and very cramped way to work. In Sonar I can load several synths at once each on their own track which to me is a lot easier to work with. Not comparing but it'd be great if it worked this way in MixCraft too.

You can load up as many tracks as you want, each with different instruments, and arm them to record at you same time. Is this what Your asking for?

Geo, please take a look at my first answer, as Tom confirms (thanks Tom) I opened 5 vsti's and 5 tracks so each track monitors a different vsti and no stacking is involved, all 5 vsti's will respond to a single input simultaneously such as a midi keyboard - assuming all tracks are armed for recording. Any track will only respond after arming so you could open a few vsti's and decide to record just 3, then further up the recording you could disarm and select the other 2 and so on, arm the track/vsti you wish to record.

Also, as far as configuring midi channel output, if the vsti allows you can use the config button to change the output channel if needed.

Awesome. Thanks so much Guys. I didn't think to arm the tracks. Way cool. :D

Yes. This is another fantastic MixCraft feature that makes it so easy I missed it the first few times around. Lol. It's really cool how MixCraft automatically routes the output of a multi-out synth.
