How to attenuate a usb line level input?

Post by FlyingsCool »

Hi,

I bought an $8 USB cable I run from my guitar into my computer, and it works pretty well into Mixcraft.

I connected it to the line out of a Behringer Keyboard amp, however, and it is wayyyyy too hot. Even with WaveRT and input level set to 0, it is still distorting at normal levels at the amp.

Any thoughts on how I could attenuate or pad the USB signal in?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi,

You could go from the headphone output of the keyboard to the USB cable. Just make sure that you set the volume to 25% or lower to avoid blasting your computer. Or, get a USB audio interface that has a gain control.

Greg's right. Electric guitars are not preamplified, but line level outputs are, meaning the amp output is WAY, WAY louder than a guitar would be. You risk damaging your new cable running the Line Out into it.

You can definitely try the Headphone Out, with the volume turned down, but that'll likely kill the amp's speaker output. Still, that's the only way you're going to get this particular setup to work.
